Two individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries after an explosion at a courthouse in California on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at the Santa Maria Courthouse, where authorities detained one “person of interest.”

“According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, a man allegedly set off a homemade bomb at the courthouse in Santa Maria around 8:50 a.m.,” KTLA 5 reports.

KTLA 5 reports:

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Raquel Zick said in a post to social media that the person of interest, an adult male, was detained immediately, and two victims suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Zick said the scene had not yet been deemed safe and urged citizens to avoid the area while law enforcement investigated.

Additional information is expected to be released later in the day.

Per ABC News:

People are urged to stay away from the area.

“Scene has not been deemed safe,” Zick wrote earlier on social media.

The courthouse is closed for the day and city buildings within one block of the courthouse are temporarily closed, said Mark Van de Camp, spokesperson for the city of Santa Maria.
