Shots were fired during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade and rally, authorities said.

The shooting reportedly took place near a garage west of Union Station as fans were leaving.

Law enforcement officials said at least eight people sustained injuries, including one individual in critical condition.

Authorities detained two people but did not identify suspects.

Police said officers are working to clear Union Station itself, and they will release everyone inside the building once that is complete.

Kansas City police are instructing Super Bowl parade-goers to leave the area as quickly and safely as possible, avoiding the Union Station parking garage.

Police said any parents looking for their children in the area can go to 2301 Main of the Union Station entrance or find an officer nearby.

Updated reports stated one person is dead and up to nine other sustained injuries.

One person is dead and at up to nine others are injured after a shooting erupted amid a Kansas City Chiefs parade at Union Station in Kansas City, according to local law enforcement officials.

Kansas City police, in a statement posted to X, formerly Twitter, said it had two armed suspects in custody shortly after. Police said shots were fired west of the station near the garage and “several people were struck.”

Authorities initially said they are scoping the building and surrounding area for the shooter. People inside the building were advised to remain there until police completed their sweeps. Additionally, the agency said the specific number of victims remains unclear.

The department did not identify suspects. The condition of the victims remained unclear. Five people were hospitalized at University Health hospital, a facility spokesperson said.

The statement asked for people to quickly leave the area in an effort to provide the victims with medical aid.
