A heated confrontation took place on Capitol Hill this week when far-left Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) tried to take on Environment Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin on a topic apparently far out of her depth.
As the Fox News reported, it didn’t take long for Zeldin to expose DeLauro’s stunted knowledge of the subject at hand:
“The fact that somebody who not only is a former chair of the House Appropriations Committee, but somebody who wants to be the next chair of the House Appropriations Committee, and she doesn’t have any idea of this overturning the Chevron doctrine and what it means [is concerning],” Zeldin said during an appearance on Fox News.
Speaking to “The Ingraham Angle,” Zeldin emphasized that recent Supreme Court rulings, including the overturning of the Chevron doctrine, are central to understanding the EPA’s authority and the balance of power between Congress and federal agencies.
“When I was nominated by President Trump to serve as EPA administrator, it was actually one of the very first topics that came up, was going into Loper Bright and what it means as EPA Administrator, the implementation of it, and Michigan vs. EPA, West Virginia vs. EPA, with the major question doctrine, what will that mean once confirmed?” he said.
ADVERTISEMENT“And you could argue that these are the two most important principles as far as separation of powers for the relationship between Congress and the executive branch.”
DeLauro, the ranking member on the House Appropriations Committee, got into a heated exchange with Zeldin on Monday over whether she was familiar with such precedents governing the EPA’s mission.
“You’re upset that you don’t know what Loper Bright is,” Zeldin said, referring to the landmark Supreme Court case from 2024 that reshaped the power of regulatory agencies.
At one point, DeLauro shouted out the name of a chemical without any context, leading Zeldin to advise her against drinking it.
Instead of clarifying her remark, she shot back with an apparent call for him to ingest the harmful substance, per the New York Post:
Later in the hearing, when things appeared to settle down a bit, DeLauro accused the Trump EPA of not doing enough to go after polluters.
Zeldin opened up his binder and started comparing the Trump administration’s enforcement actions to the Biden administration’s when DeLauro interjected.
“Glyphosate,” she said, referring to the active ingredient in the pesticide Roundup.
Zeldin advised that if the congresswoman’s cup was filled with glyphosate, she should not drink it.
ADVERTISEMENTTo which DeLauro responded, “Maybe you should try doing that.”
“Nothing infuriates an uninformed Congressional Dem more than when they realize they voluntarily triggered a debate with someone who actually knows what they are talking about, reads federal statute and adheres to Supreme Court precedent,” Zeldin wrote on X after the hearing.
“Today’s self-implosion by [DeLauro] was quite remarkable to witness,” he added.
Zeldin also addressed the lawmaker’s strange taunt involving weed killer:
When you don’t have anything good to say, some advise to just not say anything at all. As for @rosadelauro, she apparently believes that when you don’t have anything good to say, you should instruct the person you are debating to kill themself. https://t.co/E5bwHhfSxt pic.twitter.com/AW9rFP0Fzc
