As of October 27, billionaire Elon Musk has become the interim CEO and singular authority over Twitter after he fired its top executives and dismantled the 9-member Board of Directors following his acquisition of the social media company.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing said, “On October 27, 2022, and as a result of the consummation of the Merger, Mr. Musk became the sole director of Twitter. In accordance with the terms of the Merger Agreement, effective as of the effective time of the Merger, the following persons, who were directors of Twitter prior to the effective time of the Merger, are no longer directors of Twitter: Bret Taylor, Parag Agrawal, Omid Kordestani, David Rosenblatt, Martha Lane Fox, Patrick Pichette, Egon Durban, Fei-Fei Li, and Mimi Alemayehou.”

Since the takeover, Musk has confirmed that Twitter will be revising its user verification process. He has also confirmed that he will be working to reinstate all users who were handed a lifetime ban from the platform, allowing them another chance with the site.

As the new chief of Twitter, Musk will begin working towards his promise to open up the platform to allow freedom of speech so everyone’s voice can be heard without being silenced if the message doesn’t fit a set, pre-established agenda that the Twitter stakeholders agree with.

On October 28, Musk elaborated on his plans for the platform’s content moderation, saying,

“Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints. No major content decisions or account reinstatement will happen before that council convenes.”

While Musk’s commitment to allowing free speech on his platform has excited many users, some celebrity figures are so offended by the concept that they have threatened to delete their accounts, many blasting Musk’s desire for free speech as a promotion of “hate speech” simply because Twitter users will now be allowed to express opinions that they disagree with.

Screenwriter and producer Shonda Rhimes, who is most well-known for her creation of the TV series Grey’s Anatomy, apparently thought that Elon Musk owning Twitter is the end of the world, simply because he has different political beliefs than her own.

Rhimes tweeted, “Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye.”

However, her Twitter account is still active.

Similarly, Gammy award-winner Sara Bareilles announced her departure from Twitter, yet left her account active. She wrote,

“Welp. It’s been fun Twitter. I’m out. See you on other platforms, peeps. Sorry, this one’s just not for me.”

This reaction just goes to show how biased the censorship on Twitter was. The mere idea of everyone expressing their own opinion freely has sent the Left into a tailspin.
