President Trump said on Monday that he would be the last GOP president if Senate Republicans don’t terminate the filibuster.

“If Senate Republicans don’t TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, the Dumocrats will, and I will be, despite how well our Party is doing, the last Republican President! The Dumocrats will vote in Puerto Rico (4% Republican Vote), and Washington, D.C. (3% Republican Vote), pick up 4 Senators, 8 Congressmen/women, tremendous numbers of Popular and Electoral College Votes and, importantly, control the Voting Mechanisms and Systems, both Legal and otherwise, throughout the United States,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“It will be impossible for Republicans to ever win an Election again. In other words, it will be THE END OF AMERICA!” he added.

Trump issued a similar warning to Republicans earlier this year.

Newsweek reported in June:

President Donald Trump has said that he will be the last Republican president unless the filibuster is terminated.

“Anybody who doesn’t want to Terminate the Filibuster is a FOOL, a very stupid one, at that!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. He said that the “Dumocrats will end it within minutes of taking office, and then rapidly proceed to destroy our Country.”

“The Republican Party will never win another Election. I will, sadly, be the last Republican President,” he wrote. “The Republican Party isn’t at stake, our Country is. TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, AND IMMEDIATELY APPROVE THE SAVE AMERICA ACT. GOD BLESS THE U.S.A. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

Trump has previously called for the termination of the filibuster, receiving backing from some other Republicans. The U.S. Senate defines a filibuster as “action designed to prolong debate and delay or prevent a vote on a bill, resolution, amendment, or other debatable question.”

Senators can end a filibuster with a three-fifths, or 60 vote, majority. Eliminating the filibuster would allow legislation to pass by a simple majority, making it easier for Republicans, who hold a 53–47 Senate majority, to enact their agenda without needing support from any Democrats.

“If they [Democrats] get in, I may be the last Republican president,” Trump said in an interview last month.

“If the Senate doesn’t get smart, I may be the last Republican president,” he added.

Just the News noted:

Democrats have repeatedly floated expanding the Supreme Court to reverse landmark legal decisions and ending the filibuster to ram through their own legislation.

Trump has repeatedly suggested ending it while Republicans are in power to beat Democrats to the punch.
