A United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Newark made an emergency landing in Las Vegas due to an engine issue.

Authorities have not confirmed what type of engine issue caused the plane to be diverted.
The emergency landing comes days after a pilot’s medical emergency forced Delta Air Lines Flight 437 –– carrying 147 passengers from LAX to Boston — to divert to Detroit on Tuesday.

The flight was carrying 176 passengers and seven crew members.

“We have been stranded in Cleveland. 16.5 hours LA to Cleveland. Next flight to Newark 12 hours later! 1pm Saturday,” the user said in a follow-up post.

Thursday’s diversion adds to a series of in-flight mechanical problems reported across the industry in recent weeks.
On Aug. 25, Republic Airways Flight 3670 was towed back to the gate at Chicago O’Hare International Airport after crew members reported a brake issue while the Embraer 175 sat on the taxiway, the FAA said in a statement. That flight was scheduled to continue to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, and the FAA said it would investigate that incident as well.
Earlier this month, a Delta Air Lines flight carrying more than 200 people made an emergency landing in Atlanta after the crew reported fumes in the cockpit, according to a Delta Air Lines spokesperson. Delta Flight 2204, which had been heading to Florida, returned to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport shortly after takeoff, and passengers evacuated via slides before being rebooked on a new flight to Orlando. One crew member and one passenger sought medical attention following that incident. That flight carried six crew members and 199 customers.
