As 100 Percent Fed Up reported, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued an “emergency order” to temporarily suspend open and concealed carry laws in Albuquerque and throughout Bernalillo County for the next 30 days.

Grisham called the move an “emergency public health order.”

“Today I issued a 30-day ban on the open & concealed carrying of guns in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. Gun violence is killing between 2 and 3 children every month in NM – every single one of these deaths is unconscionable and they must stop,” Grisham stated Friday.

Grisham’s attempt to “suspend” the inalienable rights of her constituents will not deter gun violence.

Grisham sounds like a dictator in this press conference, where she foolishly claims an “emergency” gives her the power to invoke restrictions on free speech.

Grisham has faced blowback from both sides of the political aisle for her disregard for the U.S. and New Mexico Constitutions and her constituents’ inalienable rights.

Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen issued a statement in response to the order:

“Today, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued an emergency order temporarily suspending open and concealed carry laws in Albuquerque and throughout Bernalillo County for the next 30 days. This move has been positioned as a response to the alarming and tragic rise in gun violence, particularly the heart-wrenching death of an 11-year-old boy this past week. First and foremost, every lost life is a tragedy, and the well-being of our community is of paramount concern to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office. We share in the collective grief and urgency to address this issue,” he said.

“However, as the elected Sheriff, I have reservations regarding this order. While I understand and appreciate the urgency, the temporary ban challenges the foundation of our Constitution, which I swore an oath to uphold. I am wary of placing my deputies in positions that could lead to civil liability conflicts, as well as the potential risks posed by prohibiting law-abiding citizens from their constitutional right to self-defense,” he continued.

Republican state lawmakers called for Grisham’s impeachment following her unlawful order.

State representatives Stefani Lord (R-Sandia Park) and John Block (R-Alamogordo) called for Grisham’s impeachment for violating her oath to uphold the people’s inalienable rights.

“I was completely shocked and taken by surprise that she would do such a gross overreach and completely violate the constitution,” said Rep. Lord.

“Our governor, she called for open season on law-abiding citizens by subverting the state and federal constitutions and laws of our state, and that’s something that needs to be remedied immediately,” said Rep. Block.

The governor’s public health order bans open and concealed carry firearms in public spaces throughout Albuquerque and Bernalillo County for 30 days.

This order does not impact law enforcement or licensed security officers and does not impact those who carry a gun on private property. Representatives Lord and Block both say even those on the other side of the political aisle are shocked and angered by this too.

Lord said a Democrat expressed anger with her about the governor’s decision.

Even Democrats and gun control activists said Grisham’s order went too far.

“I support gun safety laws. However, this order from the Governor of New Mexico violates the U.S. Constitution. No state in the union can suspend the federal Constitution. There is no such thing as a state public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution,” said Ted Lieu (D-CA).

“I support gun safety but there is no such thing as a state public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution,” said gun control activist David Hogg.

Social media users expressed their shock over the criticism from gun control-supporting public servants and activists.
