Over the weekend, two young girls were shot when their fathers engaged in a major road rage battle in the Jacksonville area of Florida. A first responder’s bodycam footage captured the horrific aftermath of the men still arguing as their daughters, 5 and 14 years old, bled out on the side of US Route 1 on Saturday evening.

Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper reported that both men had been “speeding, driving erratically, and brake-checking each other” before they opened fire on each other’s vehicles.

Georgia resident William Hale, 35, was traveling with his 5-year-old daughter, and Frank Allison, 43, is a Florida resident who was driving with his 14-year-old daughter.

Hale’s 5-year-old was shot in the leg by Allison, and Allison’s daughter, Shelby, was shot in the back by Hale. Shelby suffered a collapsed lung from the gunshot wound.

Neither of the men knew the other prior to this incident.

According to Leeper, Allison’s wife – who was also in the vehicle – gave Hale the middle finger after they had been engaged in a road rage battle for a while. “The driver of the Nissan, Allison, then grabbed his Sig Sauer .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun and fired one shot at the Dodge truck before driving away at an average speed,” reported Leeper. “The bullet that Mr. Allison fired went into the right side rear passenger door and struck a 5-year-old girl in the right leg.”

Hale reported hearing the gunshot but not realizing what had happened until the passengers in his backseat began “freaking out.”

After realizing his daughter had been shot, Hale “sped up” and “began firing several shots from his Glock 43 9mm semi-automatic handgun out of the driver window,” Leeper said. One of Hale’s bullets hit 14-year-old Shelby in the back.

Both wives, who were in the vehicles at the time of the incident, called law enforcement while the shoot-out took place. When both men pulled over, they apparently “got out and started arguing and fighting” instead of tending to their daughters who had just been shot.

In a video captured by a bodycam of one of the first responders who was tending to the 14-year-old, the two fathers are heard screaming expletives at each other. Meanwhile, the officer implores Allison to focus on taking care of his daughter who had been shot.

Much of the video is muted, but Shelby is heard being comforted by her mother as she yells “Ow it hurts!”

“I know sweetie,” the officer says, as her father continues yelling about the road rage incident and how he would “never” put his daughter in a position like this.

“Do I have to ride in an ambulance?” Shelby can be heard asking the officer.

Hale’s daughter is not seen in the video, but Hale, who is shirtless, is shown being read his rights as he is arrested.

“What is scarier than one crazy driver with a gun than two crazy drivers with a gun?” asked Leeper. “Thankfully, no one was killed in this incident, but it could have easily turned out that way because two people were acting stupid and let their tempers get the best of them. It could have been two dead kids because of two stupid grown men.”

Both Hale and Allison were arrested at the scene and have been charged with second-degree attempted murder. Both have been released on $150,000 bond.
