ABC’s “The View” has fueled backlash for years due to the heavy-on-politics, light-on-evidence rants that its co-hosts frequently deliver from behind the desk.
But during President Donald Trump’s second term, that criticism might actually lead to action.
The Federal Communications Commission is currently considering whether the show should be considered news programming and thus exempted from certain equal-time requirements to air differing viewpoints.
And FCC Chair Brendan Carr has made it clear where he stands on the issue, including with a recent social media post citing co-host Sunny Hostin’s recent on-air comments.
As Fox News reported:
Carr said ABC was asking the FCC to treat the show like a traditional news program while Hostin openly pressed for a Democratic Senate majority.
“ABC is arguing to the FCC that The View is a ‘bona fide news program’—just like Meet the Press—and thus exempt from the political equal opportunity rules,” Carr posted.
ADVERTISEMENTHostin’s remark came as “The View” panel discussed whether Platner, who faced mounting Democratic pressure over allegations he denies, should step aside in the race to challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine.
“We’re in an existential crisis. We need to flip the Senate,” Hostin said.
Hostin argued that Maine remained a key pickup opportunity for Democrats and said the party needed the right replacement candidate if Platner left the race.
Carr’s comment sparked significant social media engagement:
The View is a subsidiary of the DNC media apparatus and functions as a PAC – a Democrat Socialists of America PAC. It should be regulated as one. It certainly isn't a news program, all they do is spit hate and fake news and BS opinions about conservatives and the GOP.

Please. The Spew is not a news program. It is an hour long (?) Democrat Party propaganda infomercial. The shrews on the Spew do nothing but spout Democrat talking points and bash President Trump and Republicans. Shut it down. Or make them give equal time.

It’s communist propaganda. It needs to be removed from free broadcasting and moved to a service you have to pay for.

Here’s more from the perspective of ABC’s parent company, per Axios:
“The public’s robust response during the comment period represents laudable civic engagement of the kind the Commission should welcome given its statutory obligation to make decisions based on the public interest,” the network’s lawyers said in public comments filed to the FCC on Monday.
State of play: The filing, which is required by the FCC as part of its review process, challenges the agency’s decision to reconsider whether daytime talk show “The View” qualifies for a key legal exemption that allows news programs to bypass legal requirements to give candidates equal air time.
Carr argues “The View” shouldn’t be exempt from rules that require “bona fide news programs” to allot equal air time for political candidates.
ABC has said the FCC’s actions “threaten to upend decades of settled law and practice and chill critical protected speech, both with respect to The View and more broadly.”
