Earlier today, Fox News contributor Mark Siegel announced at the end of his interview that a new coronavirus test from Roche has just come out and is much quicker. In fact, it can test patients about ten times faster than Roche’s existing test for the coronavirus. Why is this not all over the news today?

“We are increasing the speed definitely by a factor of 10,” Thomas Schinecker, head of Roche’s diagnostics unit.

Bloomberg is reporting that the FDA has granted “emergency use authorization” for the test.

Quicker test results are important because this allows the infected to be identified and quarantined faster.

The press release:

Roche’s Thomas Schinecker explains:

“Providing quality, high-volume testing capabilities will allow us to respond effectively to what the World Health Organization has characterized as a pandemic.  Over the last weeks, our emergency response teams have been working hard to bring this test to the patients. CE-mark certification and the FDA’s granting of EUA supports our commitment to give more patients access to reliable diagnostics which are crucial to combat this serious disease.”
