Since joining Congress in 2023, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has become one of a very few Democrats willing to stand up to the party on issues like Israel and immigration.

That contrarian streak has earned him some praise among conservatives, but many of the leftists who once supported him are now rooting for his downfall.

One recent article published by New York magazine included an array of allegations that raised concerns about his health and marriage.

But Fetterman bushed off the media accusations as a politically charged “hit piece,” as the New York Post reported:

“A one-source hit piece, some anonymous sources. So there’s nothing new,” Fetterman (D-Pa.) told reporters Tuesday about the exposé, which rocked the beltway late last week with its description of aides calling the senator “erratic” — as well as the rocky relationship with his wife, Gisele.

When asked about the idea that those who spoke to the magazine were worried about his health, Fetterman shot back: “They are actually not concerned, it’s a hit piece.”

The New York mag report’s protagonist was former Fetterman chief of staff Adam Jentleson, who resigned from his position last year and sent an alarmed email to the senator’s doctor.

“I think John is on a bad trajectory and I’m really worried about him,” Jentleson reportedly wrote, adding that he feared if things don’t change, Fetterman “won’t be with us for much longer.”

More than a few social media users called into question the timing of this article’s publication:

Here’s a full transcript of the post from above:

Also in today’s Morning Jolt… back when Fetterman could barely speak during the 2022 debate, New York magazine reported his medical condition was no big deal, and certainly not a reason to keep him out of elected office. But now that he’s speaking more clearly, but taking positions that irritate progressives, _now_ his staffers think something’s not right with his brain? From what everyone else can see, Fetterman’s in significantly better shape than he was in 2022 and early 2023.

I hope Fetterman’s in the best position possible, and I hope he’s following the instructions from his doctors. But both the staffer concern and New York Magazine’s attention on Fetterman’s health are remarkably conveniently timed.

Townhall also weighed in on the magazine’s “hit piece”:

It’s pieces like this that generate the hatred for the media they so richly deserve. At any rate, the libs on social media pounced on this one; what a bunch of cretins. Again, there’s plenty to criticize Fetterman on, but this is a cheap stunt and just flat-out surreal. Democrats are weaponizing mental health to take out their enemies—it’s not the first time.

The analysis went on to conclude:

My God. This was an exercise in character assassination, concern trolling, and backstabbing. And everyone can see it.

Here’s a clip of Fetterman’s reaction:
