Florida was once considered the most crucial battleground state in American elections.

In recent years, the Sunshine State is believed to have transitioned from a purple to deep-red state.

And voter registration numbers support that claim.

Republican voter registrations now outpace Democrat voter registrations by approximately one million in Florida.

“6 years ago there were nearly 300,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans in Florida. Today, there are ONE MILLION more Republicans,” the Florida GOP announced.

“It’s official! There are 1 MILLION more Republicans than Democrats in the free state of Florida! Today, we cemented Florida’s deep RED status thanks to our strong Republican leadership and grassroots leaders,” the Florida GOP added.

“Our success goes beyond just numbers,” Evan Power, Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, stated.

“It’s about a vision to make Florida the beacon of freedom for the rest of the country. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our volunteers and the unwavering commitment of our Republican elected officials, we have built the most successful party in the nation. Together, we will continue to show the rest of the country that Florida leads the way,” he added.

“1 million more Republicans in the Sunshine State! Florida is RED!” Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) commented.

“The achievement announced by the GOP Sunday caps off a stunning transformation for a once quintessential battleground state where Democrats previously long held the advantage,” the New York Post wrote.

From the New York Post:

Republicans across the state hailed the milestone Sunday.

“Six years ago, registered Democrats outnumbered registered Republicans by almost 300,000 — and Florida had never had more registered Republicans than Democrats in its history,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis wrote on X.

“Now, Republicans outnumber Democrats by 1 million voters, which is a sea change that few thought possible (and contrary to the many predictions that FL would become a blue state). Leadership matters. Bold colors, not pale pastels.”

DeSantis barely won the 2018 race for governor, 49.6% to 49.2%. Then during his 2022 reelection campaign, he easily cruised to victory 59.4% to 40%, outshining Republicans nationally that year who underperformed expectations of a red wave.

The Florida GOP tied its voter registration feat to major Republicans in the state including DeSantis, Trump and Attorney General Ashley Moody.

Per Daily Mail:

Stunning new figures show how Florida has gone from being a ‘purple’ state with a roughly-even split between Republicans and Democrats to a deep red GOP enclave.

Florida was once considered the ultimate toss-up state, with Barack Obama winning it twice and the state having Democrat governors and members of the US Senate.

But it has become a GOP stronghold since Republican Governor Ron DeSantis won his gubernatorial election in 2022.

Donald Trump’s decision to move there from NYC at the end of his presidency in 2021 further bolstered its reputation as a Republican hotspot, as did a wave of migrants from blue states – many fleeing policies they deemed too progressive.

In Florida, there are now 5.3 million residents registered to vote as Republicans versus 4.3 million Democrats, with the official margin around 995,000.

It’s a complete turnaround from the GOP, as in the year before DeSantis was elected, 2017, Democrats outnumbered Republicans by a count of 4.8 million to 4.5 million.
