A Florida woman is behind bars after her husband allegedly made a sickening discovery while checking a bedroom security camera.
Malia Elizabeth Nummerdor, 38, was arrested Tuesday in Charlotte County and charged with sexual activity involving animals, a second-degree felony under Florida law.
Authorities say the footage involved the family’s pet dog. Nummerdor has denied that sexual contact occurred, but investigators said her explanation did not match what they saw.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said detectives opened an investigation after learning about social-media posts accusing a woman of engaging in sexual activity with a pet. Investigators contacted the person who made the allegations, obtained sworn statements and collected digital evidence from a surveillance system inside the home.
Deputies interviewed Nummerdor on September 15. According to the sheriff’s office, she acknowledged that she was the person in the footage and that the animal was the family dog.
Nummerdor denied that anything sexual had occurred and tried to characterize the interaction differently. Investigators said she could not give a consistent explanation for what appeared on camera.
She then requested an attorney, bringing the interview to an end.

The New York Post reported that Nummerdor’s husband first aired the accusation on Facebook and said he had both photographic and video evidence. The report says he had installed cameras inside the residence and found the footage while reviewing recordings from the bedroom.
The camera was reportedly installed for a completely different reason: he wanted to discover who had been taking money from a coin container in the home.
Instead, investigators say, he found evidence of an alleged felony involving the family pet.
The husband met with deputies on September 14, provided images from the recording and allowed investigators to access the laptop containing the footage. That handoff gave detectives the original digital evidence behind the accusation rather than a secondhand social-media claim.
The Post also reported that Nummerdor married her husband in 2023 and that her public Facebook profile included years of family photographs. None of that public material supplied an explanation for the conduct investigators said was visible on the recording.
Gulf Coast News reported that everyone in the residence knew about the two security cameras. The local outlet said Nummerdor told deputies she had only been petting the animal, but investigators described her answers as contradictory after comparing them with the recording.
Those competing accounts will now be tested against the recording, witness statements and interview in court. Prosecutors still carry the burden of proving the felony charge.
The allegation itself is appalling. Animals cannot consent, and Florida law treats sexual contact with an animal as a serious felony rather than a bizarre private matter.
The disturbing account quickly drew national attention, with reporter Breanna Morello laying out the accusation and the husband’s decision to turn the evidence over to authorities:

ABC7 Sarasota noted that Florida law defines the prohibited conduct around sexual gratification, abuse or financial gain and specific sexual contact between a person and an animal. The charge against Nummerdor falls under that statute.
The local station also reported that the investigation moved quickly: the husband spoke with deputies September 14, Nummerdor sat for a recorded interview September 15, and the sheriff’s office publicly announced the arrest the following day.
Sheriff Prummell said the case left him almost speechless. He emphasized that no animal should be subjected to such conduct and promised that his office would act whenever it learned of abuse in Charlotte County.
He also questioned why Nummerdor appeared to be smiling broadly in her booking photograph after an arrest on such a disturbing accusation.
Nummerdor was being held at the Charlotte County Jail on a $35,000 bond when the sheriff’s office released its statement Wednesday.
The digital evidence, the husband’s sworn account and Nummerdor’s recorded interview will now sit at the center of the case as prosecutors decide how to proceed.
Whatever explanation is offered in court, law enforcement’s public account is already clear: this was treated as an alleged felony against an animal, not as a joke, a misunderstanding or harmless behavior.
