Former Brazilian volleyball player Walewska Oliveira died at 43.

Oliveira played with the Brazilian women’s volleyball team for three consecutive Olympics, winning a gold medal in the 2008 Beijing games.

She also won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Oliveira died in San Paulo and her cause of death is reportedly unknown.

However, it’s currently being investigated as a potential suicide.

According to local media reports, Oliveira died after falling from the 17th floor of the building where she lived.

The civil police are investigating the causes and have not yet reached any conclusion,” a translated X post from Rede Marco read.

CBV president Radames Lattari added: ‘Walewska was a special player, her career in the sport will forever be remembered and revered. At this difficult time, CBV sympathises with the family and friends of this great player.’

Oliveira retired from the sport in 2022 and when announcing her decision, she said : ‘My career was beautiful. I have a lot to thank everyone, Praia Clube for ending my career here, for participating in this group.

‘I will cherish this moment for the rest of my life.’

Oliveira represented 11 clubs in her career which included spells in Italy, Spain and Russia along with her homeland.
