Former Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin was arrested on Thursday by the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office and taken to the Louisville Metro Jail.

“According to the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office, their communications center got a call that Bevin was in Bourbon County participating in a movie project and may have a warrant for his arrest,” WLWT reports.

Contempt of court was listed as the reason for his arrest.

“His arrest comes after a judge issued an order for his arrest back in June, tied to his ongoing child support case involving his ex-wife and his adopted son,” WKYT stated.

According to NBC affiliate WLEX, “The Greatest Christmas Gift of All,” a new Great American Family movie, was wrapping up a nearly two-week shoot in downtown Paris.

The owner of the farm in Paris, KY being used as the set talked to WLWT’s sister station WLKY.

She said Bevin was arrested during filming.

She said the sheriff pulled up around 6 p.m. and started showing people Bevin’s picture, and then the sheriff was led inside.

At the time, they were shooting a wedding scene.

Police let him use the restroom then took him into custody.

She said that the movie filming resumed after he was arrested.

Bevin served as Kentucky governor from 2015 to 2019, losing re-election to Democrat Andy Beshear.

“The Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office contacted Former Governor Bevin at the location reported and he was taken into custody shortly after and lodged into the Bourbon-Nicholas County Region Detention Center without any issues as Bevin was very cooperative,” Sheriff Tony Asbury said in a press release.

After repeatedly failing to follow the judge’s orders, Judge Angela Johnson issued a warrant for his arrest and ordered him to spend 60 days behind bars at the Louisville Metro jail, as well as pay a $500 fine.

Johnson declined to rescind the arrest warrant until the documents were turned over. He was also ordered to attend court hearings in person, which he did not do on multiple occasions.

When Bevin attempted to join the latest hearing in July via Zoom, Johnson declined to allow him to participate virtually.

“Mr. Bevin made that decision not to be here, but you know, he’s going to pay for it in that he doesn’t get to go under oath and present his side of the story,” Johnson said.

Glenna Bevin, the former Kentucky First Lady, filed for divorce in May 2023. She complied with court orders to submit financial documents, while Matt Bevin did not, leading to Johnson issuing a warrant for his arrest on June 5.
