Following three churches being lit ablaze across the US over the weekend, a statue of the Virgin Mary honoring fallen WWII soldiers is the latest target of godless radicals. Massachusetts authorities have opened an investigation into the statue that was burned outside a Boston Catholic Church Saturday.

The statue at St. Peter Parish in Dorchester was found charred around 10 p.m. Saturday.

“Whoever is responsible for the desecration of the Holy Mother’s statue is clearly a troubled soul,” Terrence C. Donilon, Secretary for Communications & Public Affairs for the Archdiocese of Boston, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Mary represents all that is good and pure in our world.  We have confidence in local law enforcement to investigate this matter.  We pray for the person or persons responsible.”

“Fire investigators say it appears someone set fire to plastic flowers that were in the hands of the statue, which caused the face and upper body of the statue to be burned,” NBC Boston reports. “The charred statue startled parishioners on Sunday, with one man saying he was ‘very disturbed’ by the incident.”

The Archdiocese of Boston plans to clean the statue and neighbors replaced the flowers. Rev. John Curran, the parish’s pastor, said the incident, which is being investigated as arson, left him shocked and saddened.

The incident occurred among national tensions over the removal of statues and monuments, including some depicting religious figures. In Boston, the city removed a statue of Christopher Columbus after protesters beheaded it. The city also plans to tear down a statue of an enslaved man kneeling at the feet of Abraham Lincoln after pressure from protesters who circulated a petition, as reported by The Hill.

The target on Christian statues is the second attack on an image of the Virgin Mary in the past week. On Friday, the Diocese of Brooklyn announced that a 100-year-old statue of the Virgin Mary had been vandalized at Cathedral Prep School and Seminary in Queens, New York, and that New York City Police were investigating the matter, according to the Catholic News Agency. Security footage of the attack shows an individual writing the word “IDOL” on the statue around 3 a.m. Friday morning.

And the godless radicals did not stop at statues. Over the weekend, three churches were burned across the nation, according to Gateway Pundit. On Friday, a fire destroyed Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Elkmont, Alabama. On Saturday, a man drove into a church in Ocala, Florida, before lighting it on fire. A fire also destroyed the roof of 249-Year-Old San Gabriel Mission Church in California.

The godless radicals’ latest target: Christian churches is just another example of the Left’s War on Christianity. Had these been statues and places of worship for any other religion, it would have been leading the news cycle for at least a week.
