Anthony Fauci has announced that he will be retiring from the government in December so he can “pursue the next chapter” of his career. However, Republicans are already announcing their plans to investigate him and hold him accountable for his role in the COVID pandemic.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease director announced that he was “not retiring” but rather looking to “pursue the next chapter” of his career.

“While I am moving on from my current positions, I am not retiring,” Fauci said. “After more than 50 years of government service, I plan to pursue the next phase of my career while I still have so much energy and passion for my field.”

Kentucky GOP Senator Rand Paul is one of the political leaders who will be going after Fauci. “Fauci’s resignation will not prevent a full-throated investigation into the origins of the pandemic. He will be asked to testify under oath regarding any discussions he participated in concerning the lab leak,” Paul tweeted in response to Fauci’s announcement.

Paul told Fox News, “He will be asked to testify under oath regarding any discussions he participated in concerning the lab leak.”

Kentucky Rep. James Comer also took to Twitter to address Fauci’s announcement, saying, “Retirement can’t shield Dr. Fauci from congressional oversight. The American people deserve transparency and accountability about how government officials used their taxpayer dollars, and [House Oversight Republicans] will deliver.”

Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs tweeted, “Make no mistake, my colleagues and I will hold Dr. Fauci accountable whether or not he remains in public office.”

Biggs also accused Fauci of being a “coward” for resigning “before House Republicans have an opportunity to hold him accountable for destroying our country over these past three years.”

Rep. Troy Nehls tweeted, “Preserve your records and don’t delete any emails. A time of reckoning will come. We will see you in January.”

If they take the majority in the House or Senate, Republicans plan to investigate the origins of the COVID pandemic and the US Government’s response.
