When it comes to tearing down President Donald Trump’s second-term agenda, Democrats clearly have their work cut out for them — particularly in the aftermath of Joe Biden’s disastrous term in the White House.

But with Trump’s popularity soaring on the topic of immigration, some leftists think they’ve found an effective talking point against him.

The anti-Trump voices defending a recently deported illegal immigrant and alleged violent gang member, however, might not be doing much to help their party.

That’s what Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) had to say about the strategy when he appeared on Fox News recently, per the Daily Caller:

“You put it in the backdrop, now of the Democrats coming off an election loss in November where illegal immigration was either the number one or two issue at any point in that campaign. They got their rear ends kicked in that election,” Schmitt said. “So, what do they do now? Now they are rallying all their energy and resources and political will is behind a guy who was deported, an illegal criminal alien, MS-13 gang member, who beats his wife.”

“This is their cause,” Schmitt continued. “So, I don’t think they’ve hit rock bottom yet, Jacqui. This is insane to me. I can’t believe how stupid this is, but they’re doing it. So, let’s have this debate.”

Schmitt also pointed to Patty Morin’s appearance at Wednesday’s White House press briefing. Morion’s daughter, Rachel Morin, was murdered by an illegal immigrant in August 2023.

“Hearing from Patty Morin yesterday was important to reframe the issue. This is about human beings, young women, mothers raped, murdered by these illegal immigrants,” Schmitt said. “They need to go. The Democrat Party is really exposing themselves for who they really are now, which is they believe in open borders. They don’t believe in the sovereignty of our country. They think borders are arbitrary lines on maps.”

Meanwhile, Trump continues to receive high approval ratings for his hardline stance on illegal immigration:

The left’s argument continues to fall flat among many Americans as new evidence emerges about Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the deported immigrant being held up as a symbol of Trump’s supposed cruelty.

As Fox News reported this week:

Fox News obtained the written domestic violence allegations filed in court against 29-year-old Kilmar Abrego Garcia by his wife, Jennifer Vasquez, in 2021.

In the filing, written in Vasquez’s own handwriting, she alleges Abrego Garcia repeatedly beat her, writing: “At this point, I am afraid to be close to him. I have multiple photos/videos of how violent he can be and all the bruises he [has] left me.”

Vasquez alleged that Abrego Garcia punched and scratched her on her eye, leaving her bleeding. He also allegedly threw her laptop on the floor.

She wrote that on another day, Abrego Garcia got angry again, started yelling, and ripped her shirt and shorts off before grabbing her arm and leaving marks.

Vasquez recalled two times in 2020 that Abrego Garcia hit her.

“In November 2020, he hit me with his work boot,” she wrote. “In August 2020, he hit me in the eye leaving a purple eye.”

Additionally, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released court documents regarding Abrego Garcia, which cast further doubt on the Democrats’ narrative about his innocence.

DHS released new documents this week, which it says definitively proves Abrego Garcia, who was deported to the El Salvadoran mega prison “Terrorism Confinement Center” (CECOT) last month, is a member of the notorious MS-13 gang.

Here’s what White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt had to say about the developing narrative:
