Earlier today, there was a mass shooting that took place in El Paso, Texas at a Walmart store at the Cielo Vista Mall.
Army Specialist Glendon Oakley was shopping at the Foot Locker store in the mall where the mass shooting took place.
KTSM interview Oakley about the incident.
Oakley explained that he was inside the Foot Locker store when he said that a little kid ran in and told them there was a shooting in the Walmart store. Oakley claimed that he and the Foot Locker employee ignored the kid, thinking, “he’s just a kid,’ so they didn’t believe him. When he walked outside of the Foot Locker store, he heard a “pop…pop…pop!” Oakley took out his gun and prepared to defend himself, when he noticed a lot of scared kids running around without their parents.
Oakley explained that he was trying to pick up as many kids as possible, but they were “so anxious” that they were squirming out of his arms. “They were without their parents and stuff, so I was just trying to pick up as many as possible.”
The KTSM reporter asked him what it was like to be in the mall, Oakley told her that he’s in the military and that it brought back flashbacks for him. He ended the interview by saying, “I’m not even worried about myself, I’m just worried about the kids.”
Glen Oakley is a true hero!
This is Glen Oakley.
He was in the @FootLocker when the El Paso shooting happened. When he ran to leave, he saw kids in the mall without their parents, scared and alone.
So he picked up as many as he could and carried them to safety.
