UPDATE: Flynn sentencing is delayed for 90 days!
The Michael Flynn sentencing hearing turned ugly today when Judge Sullivan told Flynn that he will take into consideration his “years of service and sacrifice, and your cooperation,” but he can’t minimize the very serious crime: “Arguably, you sold your country out. The court is going to consider all that.”
The judge asks the special council if they ever considered treason…treason?
UPDATE: JUDGE WALKS BACK TREASON CLAIM:
Judge Sullivan is wrong on this. Flynn’s position with the Turkish government ended before President Trump was in office. Sullivan is walking back his concerns but is still not happy with the fact that Flynn was working with a foreign government while working with President Trump:
“You were an unregistered agent of a foreign country while serving as the National Security Adviser to the president! “
Why in the world would the judge not know the timeline of Flynn’s involvement with the Turkish government?
Also, why would the judge not know that Flynn is still involved with the Mueller special council questioning?
Judge Sullivan says it’s a crime to lie to the FBI then asks Flynn if he knows that. The judge wanted to know because if that wasn’t so then there was no crime by Flynn.
Sullivan takes a very harsh view when he then tells Flynn he caused the Vice President to lie to the American people three times.
The judge is clearly not happy with Flynn and may not go with what the government recommended. Flynn could get up to 6 months in prison but the government asked for leniency in his case.
Speculation is that the judge didn’t realize Flynn is still working with the special counsel. The judge may want to delay the sentencing of Flynn until he’s finished with the special counsel’s questioning.
