Former film producer Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia.

Two sources told NBC News the disgraced Hollywood mogul is undergoing treatment in prison at Rikers Island in New York.

“Chronic myelogenous leukemia, also called CML, is an uncommon type of cancer of the bone marrow,” Mayo Clinic stated.

Per NBC News:

In a statement to NBC News on Monday night, Weinstein’s legal health care representative Craig Rothfeld said in part, “Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will offer no further comment.”

The news of Weinstein’s diagnosis comes amid a myriad of health issues. Last month, he underwent emergency heart surgery to alleviate a significant amount of fluid in his lungs and heart.

In July, he was hospitalized and tested positive for Covid-19 and double pneumonia.

Weinstein’s health issues come amid his legal battle with Manhattan prosecutors over their efforts to combine his original 2020 sexual crimes with a new criminal indictment. Prosecutors have sought to consolidate the new charges with the ones previously brought against Weinstein so they could be tried in court together.

TMZ reports:

As we reported, Weinstein had his Manhattan case overturned on appeal after his 2020 conviction for raping an aspiring actress and sexually assaulting a production assistant. The judge sentenced him to 23 years in prison.

But, Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg decided to retry the case of the two accusers, and even announced a new indictment in September, charging Weinstein with a third sexual assault of a woman in a lower Manhattan hotel.

What’s more, Weinstein was convicted in 2022 for raping a woman in a Beverly Hills hotel and was sentenced to 16 years in a California prison. He has also faced a mountain of civil lawsuits alleging rape and sexual assault.

On top of his legal woes, Weinstein has had to deal with a litany of health issues, including diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, and fluid on his heart and lungs.
