In the wake of the Roe v Wade overturn, 26 states are already prepared to ban or heavily restrict abortion

Roe v. Wade has finally been overturned. The Court voted 6-3 Friday to overturn the constitutional right to abortion provided in Roe and now it is left up to the individual states to allow, restrict, or outright ban abortion as they see fit.

With that being said, 26 states already have bills poised and ready to ban or very heavily restrict abortion in the wake of the SCOTUS decision.’

Alabama- Total or Near Total Ban.

Arizona- Total or Near Total Ban.

Arkansas- Total or Near Total Ban.

Florida- Likely to pass ban or restriction.

Georgia- Restrictive time-sensitive ban.

Idaho- Total or Near Total Ban.

Indiana- Likely to pass ban or restriction.

Iowa- Restrictive time-sensitive ban.

Kentucky- Total or Near Total Ban.

Louisiana- Total or Near Total Ban.

Michigan- Total or Near Total Ban.

Mississippi- Total or Near Total Ban.

Missouri- Total or Near Total Ban.

Montana- Likely to pass ban or restriction.

Nebraska- Likely to pass ban or restriction.

North Dakota- Total or Near Total Ban.

Ohio- Restrictive time-sensitive ban.

Oklahoma- Total or Near Total Ban.

South Carolina- Restrictive time-sensitive ban.

South Dakota- Total or Near Total Ban.

Tennessee- Total or Near Total Ban.

Texas- Total or Near Total Ban.

Utah- Total or Near Total Ban.

West Virginia- Total or Near Total Ban.

Wisconsin- Total or Near Total Ban.

Wyoming- Total or Near Total Ban.

18 of these states have pre-Roe v. Wade (1973) bans already in place which will now be enforceable, while another four have very time-sensitive laws in place restricting abortion already. Finally, four other states are considered likely to pass either near-total bans or time-sensitive restrictions.

In each of the 26 cases, legislation is either already in the books or already prepared.
