A worker at Australia’s Sydney Airport tragically died after being struck by a towing vehicle.

“The freight handler, believed to be aged in his 40s, was struck by a vehicle at the Qantas International Freight Terminal while working in Mascot on Sunday. Paramedics rushed to the scene, however the man could not be revived,” Breaking Aviation News & Videos wrote.

“A Qantas spokesman said the airline would provide support to ‘those affected.’ ‘Our thoughts are with the worker’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time,’ he said,” the post added.

The man suffered significant injuries to his head and chest area and could not be revived, NSW Ambulance said.

He was employed by recruitment and labor hire business, Wymap People.

“We are saddened about the tragic accident involving a team member of Wymap People. Our sympathy and condolences go out to the family, friends, team members and broader airport community,” the company said in a statement.

Police established a crime scene that was examined by specialist police, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services spoke with a number of traumatised witnesses, including the operator of the heavy machinery involved in the accident.

It’s understood there has been no impact on passenger operations as a result of the accident.

SafeWork NSW said it had been notified of the incident, a spokesperson adding: “SafeWork inspectors are responding and making inquiries.”
