A hospital in Long Island, New York, reportedly is planning a ‘mass casualty exercise’ later this week.

According to Patch, “Stony Brook Southampton Hospital will be participating in a full-scale, mass casualty surge exercise with local police, fire and EMS departments involved.”

Patch reports:

The event takes place on Sunday, April 21 from 9 a.m. until noon.

“The exercise is a drill and will not disrupt any hospital services. All staff, patients and visitors will have unrestricted access. Residents in the area will also have access to and from their homes during the training,” the hospital said.

Residents should be aware that participating emergency vehicles will be on-site as well as patient actors, the hospital said.

The following road closures are anticipated to take place:

  • Meeting House Lane (Between Lewis St and Old Town Rd.)
  • Lewis Street (Between Meeting House Ln and Herrick Rd.)
  • Herrick Road (Between Lewis Street and Old Town Rd.)
  • Old Town Road (Between Rogers Ave and Wickapogue Rd)
  • Wickapogue Road (Between Old Town Rd and Narrow Ln.)

Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) conducted a mass casualty exercise in April 2023.

Per Stony Brook University:

On Tuesday, April 18, from 7:00 am to noon the Division of Enterprise Risk Management will be partnering with the University Hospital for a full-scale emergency drill in the vicinity of the Staller Center, East Side Dining and University Hospital. There will be multiple emergency service departments from campus as well as local, county and state agencies participating, and will include role players, simulated victims, emergency response vehicles and a test of the campus outdoor siren.

Similarly, the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) conducted a mass casualty training exercise last week.

The U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) said it will be holding a mass casualty training exercise at its clinic from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11.

According to USAFA, the 10th Medical Group is conducting the exercise on Thursday at the Academy clinic. The clinic will be closed during the exercise, and Academy personnel and civilians are to avoid it and its parking until after training is complete.

USAFA expects the clinic to reopen around 1 p.m. on Thursday.
