Invasive Cow-Killing Tick Continues To Spread Through The U.S.

By Graham | Jan 1, 2024

Since its discovery in 2017, the invasive Asian longhorned ticks have continued to spread across the U.S., threatening livestock nationwide.

The invasive ticks reproduce rapidly, with females able to lay up to 2,000 eggs simultaneously, according to the USDA.

Though it most famously targets cows, just about all mammals and even birds are at risk of the Asian long-horned ticks sucking them dry.

Distribution

ALHT is native to eastern China, Japan, the Russian Far
East and Korea. It is an introduced and established exotic
species in Australia, New Zealand and several island
nations in the Western Pacific Region. In late 2017, ALHT
was found in New Jersey, marking the first confirmed
detection of this pest in the United States. To date, ALHT
has been confirmed in the following States: Arkansas,
Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland,
Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio,
Rhode Island, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee,
Virginia, and West Virginia.
The widespread establishment of a new tick species in
the United States is rare. After the 2017 detection, animal
health officials examined how and when the tick arrived in
the United States. It remains unknown how the ALHT first
entered the country, but it likely arrived here in or before
2010. Possible routes of entry include imports of domestic
pets, horses, or livestock or people unknowingly carrying
the tick back to the United States after traveling abroad.

Hosts

ALHT has been found feeding on a number of hosts,
including sheep, goats, dogs, cats, horses, cattle, chickens,
black bears, foxes (red and grey), coyotes, groundhogs,
striped skunks, white-tailed deer, elk, opossums, raccoons,
Canada geese, barred owls, great horned owls, brown
boobies, Peromyscus mice, and red-tailed hawks. The tick
has also been found on people.

It is recommended that farmers monitor their livestock and have them regularly checked for ticks to prevent them from being killed.

In 2021, a farmer contacted the Ohio State University after these invasive ticks killed three of their cows.

Read more here from the Washington Post:

Now, researchers are using the gruesome deaths of three cows in Ohio to sound the alarm about the parasitic arachnids.

In an analysis in the Journal of Medical Entomology, they tracked the state’s first known established colony of the brown ticks. In 2021, a farmer contacted Ohio State University researchers, reporting that three of his cows had died during a tick infestation. The cause was exsanguination, suffered as tens of thousands of the ticks attacked the cows, including an adult bull, and bled them to death.

Researchers went to the pasture and dragged a muslin cloth along the ground, using a lint roller to pick up the sesame seed-sized creatures, which balloon to the size of a pea when feeding on blood. They managed to gather 9,287 ticks in just 90 minutes.

Then, they tested 100 of the females for diseases. Eight had Anaplasma phagocytophilum, a tick-borne disease that can harm humans and animals. But the disease was not present in the surviving herd, and scientists concluded the cows had likely died of blood loss. The ticks have returned to the pasture despite pesticide treatment.

What is most frightening is the possibility of diseases being spread to humans from these invasive ticks.

We all know they are getting ready to unleash something new on us soon….

May I humbly suggest you may want to grab one of these?

8 Critical, Life-Saving Medications Every American Should Have On Hand (And The Foolproof Way To Get Them Prescribed)

Ask the average, well-prepared patriot what they stock up on in case of an emergency and the answers might be something like:

  • Food
  • Water
  • Ammo
  • And precious metals

But even the most prepared Americans are sorely lacking the critical medications that can protect them from anthrax, tick bites, COVID and even bioweapons.

And it’s not because of a lack of knowledge either.

Looking back at the pandemic, the US government was able to force an experimental vaccine on the population helping big pharma rake in $1,000 of profit every second.

But if you want a simple antibiotic, then you better be prepared to jump through hoops to prove why you need it.

Luckily a small group of patriotic doctors, pharmacists and business leaders have had enough with the corrupting influence of big pharma.
