The January 6th witch hunt committee has withdrawn Donald Trump’s subpoena to testify as their investigation is set to end on January 3.

In October, the Jan 6 committee voted unanimously to subpoena Trump to obtain documents and testimony from him relating to their investigation into the attempts at overturning the 2020 election results.

After the subpoena was issued, the chairman of the committee, Missouri Democrat Bennie Thompson and Rep. Liz Cheney wrote a letter to Trump saying, “We recognize that a subpoena to a former President is a significant historic step. We do not take this action lightly.”

Trump’s lawyers called the subpoena “invalid” because it failed to further a legislative purpose, and Trump sued to block the subpoena in November.

On Wednesday, Thompson sent a letter to Trump’s lawyers letting them know that the former president will no longer be required to comply with the document requests.

Thompson wrote, “In light of the imminent end of our investigation, the Select Committee can no longer pursue the specific information covered by the subpoena.”

“Therefore, through this letter, I hereby formally withdraw the subpoena issued to former President Trump, and notify you that he is no longer obligated to comply or produce records in response to said subpoena,” added Thompson.

As the committee is set to wrap up on January 3, many other subpoenas have also been dropped.

Trump immediately turned to his social media platform, TruthSocial, to announce this development.

He wrote, “Was just advised that the Unselect Committee of political Thugs has withdrawn the Subpoena of me concerning the January 6th Protest of the CROOKED 2020 Presidential Election. They probably did so because they knew I did nothing wrong, or they were about to lose in Court. Perhaps the FBI’s involvement in RIGGING the Election played into their decision. In any event, the Subpoena is DEAD!”

The Jan 6 committee also released the final report of its investigation, concluding that Trump engaged in a criminal “multi-part conspiracy” to overturn the 2020 election results.

The committee reported that their evidence “has led to an overriding and straight-forward conclusion: the central cause of January 6th was one man, former President Donald Trump, who many others followed. None of the events of January 6th would have happened without him.”
