Joe Biden will not attend Kamala Harris’ election watch party.

“Tonight, the president and First Lady will watch election results in the White House residence with longtime aides and senior White House staff,” a White House official told the Washington Examiner.

“The president will receive regular updates on the state of races across the country,” the official added.

From the Washington Examiner:

Harris is hosting a watch party at her alma mater, Howard University, which is located less than 2 miles from the executive mansion, but her boss will not be among the attendees.

The relationship between Biden and Harris has appeared strained throughout the election, with her seeking to distance herself from the administration by promising to “turn the page” and usher in a “new way forward.” Another slogan, “We are not going back,” further cements the image she wants to cast as an agent of change.

Yet she still owes her status as vice president to Biden, who chose her for the position in 2020 and who endorsed her to be the Democratic nominee immediately after dropping out.

Per Daily Caller:

While Harris and her team host a watch party at her alma mater, Howard University, Biden will be surrounded by the first lady and longtime officials and aides, a White House official told NBC News. The president has no public events planned after he spent Saturday doing one final campaign event in Pennsylvania.

In the final weeks of the campaign, the Harris campaign sidelined a Biden eager to help them, three people familiar with the dynamic told Axios. Every time Biden’s team asked to hit the campaign trail aside the vice president, they were hit with the same message, “we’ll get back to you,” the sources told the outlet.

The campaign’s hesitancy came from believing that the president is a liability politically, Axios reported.

“He’s a reminder of the last four years, not the new way forward,” a source familiar with the situation told Axios.

After Axios’ report that Biden was being cast to the side by the Harris campaign, the president ignited a firestorm during Harris’ closing arguments. Sitting just about a thousand feet from Harris’ rally on the Ellipse, Biden called Trump supporters “garbage” while on a get-out-the-vote with Voto Latino.
