Today, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer that she will be extending the state of emergency through Oct. 1 at 11:59 p.m. This comes a day before the state of emergency was set to expire. Now six going on seven months later, non-essential business still remain closed to the people of Michigan.
Before her emergency declaration extension today, Whitmer gave the green light for gyms to reopen on September 9 and contact sports to resume, under strict COVID safety measure of course. However, movie theaters, bowling alleys, and other social businesses were not included in Executive Order 2020-177. This new executive order will give the state of Michigan the ability to mobilize resources and take the necessary steps to protect the people of Michigan. Whitmer’s official statement to the public:
Just yesterday the Michigan Board of State Canvassers approved two recall petitions that seek to drive Democrat governor Gretchen Whitmer out of office. According to activists Michael Garabelli and James Makowski these recall petitions were created because of Whitmer’s abuse of power. Whitmer put Michigan in a ‘shelter in place’ lockdown that prevented some medical procedures in the state, and Whitmer’s rejection of facemasks from Former Republican Michigan Congressman Kerry Bentivolio, as reported by the National File. If the petitions reach a million signatures these activists will have the ability to force her out of office.
