The Manhattan grand jury that was impaneled to vote on an indictment of former President Donald Trump has reportedly reached a decision, according to CNN.

Sources familiar with the case say that the jury voted to indict Trump, making it the first time in history that a former President has been indicted on criminal charges.

The charges stem from payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels by Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen.

Trump has denied that his activities were illegal and classified the payment as legal expenses.

Trump’s attorneys previously indicated that if Trump was indicted by the Manhattan grand jury, he would willingly surrender himself to authorities to face the charges.

Still, he has been vocal about the looming indictment, claiming that it is motivated by political bias and attacking Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Trump and his campaign team have not yet issued a statement in response to the indictment.

His supporters have taken to social media to decry the indictment as politically motivated, with commentator Greg Price saying that America is now a ‘banana republic’ as a result of the decision.

Top prosecutors on both sides of the aisle have said that Bragg will have a difficult time securing a conviction based on the available evidence against Trump and that Trump will win on appeal if he does get a conviction.

This is a developing story.

CNN Reports

A grand jury in Manhattan has voted to indict Donald Trump, according to three sources familiar with the matter – the first time in American history that a current or former president will face criminal charges.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office has been investigating the former president in connection with his alleged role in a hush money payment scheme and cover-up involving adult film star Stormy Daniels that dates to the 2016 presidential election.

The decision is sure to send shockwaves across the country, pushing the American political system – which has never seen one of its ex-leaders confronted with criminal charges, let alone while running again for president – into uncharted waters.

The legal action against Trump jolts the 2024 presidential campaign into a new phase – where the former president has vowed to keep running in the face of criminal charges.
