Putin delivered opening remarks Tuesday at the Moscow International Security Conference, in which he called out the United States for provoking conflict. Putin highlighted Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan amidst conflict with China, saying her visit was a ‘brazen demonstration of disrespect for the sovereignty of other countries and for its (the US’) international obligations’.

Tensions were high between China and Taiwan prior to Pelosi’s visit. But China objected to Taiwan hosting Nancy Pelosi as it considers Taiwan its own territory and believes the US should not be selling weapons to the island.

Putin also addressed the Ukraine conflict saying the United States was intentionally provoking conflict and destabilization,

The situation in Ukraine shows that the US is trying to prolong this conflict. And they act in exactly the same way, fueling the potential for conflict in Asia, Africa and Latin America,’ Putin said.

‘The American adventure in relation to Taiwan is not just a trip of an individual irresponsible politician, but part of a purposeful, conscious US strategy to destabilize and make chaotic the situation in the region and the world,’ he added.

According to the Daily Mail Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said they are not planning to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

‘From a military point of view, there is no need to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine to achieve the set goals,’ Shoigu said.

Putin accused the US of using the Ukraine conflict to retain dominance, “They need conflicts to retain their hegemony,” Putin charged. “That’s why they have turned the Ukrainian people into cannon fodder.”
