On Thursday, Kamala Harris attended the NCAA March Madness matchup between her alma mater Howard University and the University of Kansas. When she was shown on the jumbotron, she received a chorus of boos from the crowd.

According to multiple reports from the game, the booing outweighed the cheering when VP Harris was shown on the big screen.

The Howard Bison suffered a tough 96-68 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks, the defending NCAA men’s basketball national champions.

After the game, Harris went into the Bison locker room to give them a “classic Kamala” speech that received a lot of ridicule on social media.

“You played hard. You played to the very last second. You made all us Bisons proud,” she said. “You are smart. You are disciplined. You put everything you had into the game. You guys did not stop, and that is so inspiring. So you keep playing with chin up and shoulders back because you showed the world who Bison are.”

“So I know you may not be feeling great right now, OK, but know who you are,” continued Harris. “You are excellence. You are hard work. You are powerful, and you are winners.”

Critics made fun of Harris’ speech, with one Twitter user joking, “Every team that loses should have to listen to this as punishment.”

Journalist Greg Price tweeted, “Truly feel bad for these guys. They lost the game and then had to be subjected to this speech.”

Clayton Keirns, co-owner of the news site Trending Politics tweeted, “After losing in the NCAA tournament, the team had to get a locker room speech from… Kamala Harris. You can literally feel the cringe in the room. I’m speechless.”
