Kamala Harris said her administration would not take anyone’s guns because her and Tim Walz are both gun owners.

“This business about taking everyone’s guns away; Tim Walz and I are both gun owners. We’re not taking anybody’s guns away so stop with the continuous lying about this stuff,” Harris said.

Harris surprised many viewers with her comments.

Per CBS News:

Walz has spoken publicly about being an avid hunter and gun owner. He even earned “A” ratings from the National Rifle Association from 2010 to 2016, though his grade fell to an “F” in 2018 after the Minnesota governor backed stricter gun laws after the shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

But Harris’ quip about having a gun raised eyebrows, even though it’s not the first time the vice president has spoken about it publicly.

In 2019, while running in the Democratic presidential primary, Harris told reporters that she is a gun owner, according to a CNN report at the time.

From CNN in 2019:

Sen. Kamala Harris, whose stump speech includes impassioned calls for banning assault weapons and universal background checks, put it very simply: Yes, she owns a firearm.

“I am a gun owner, and I own a gun for probably the reason a lot of people do – for personal safety,” the California Democrat said Thursday. “I was a career prosecutor.”

The weight of that phrase was a reminder of the personal risk Harris has faced in her career in law enforcement, from being an Alameda County criminal prosecutor, San Francisco district attorney and California attorney general.

A Harris campaign aide said the weapon she owns is a handgun, which she keeps locked up, as a responsible gun owner. According to the aide, the handgun was purchased years ago.

“Kamala Harris and I are both gun owners. We’re not going to take away your Second Amendment rights — we’re going to prevent your kids from getting shot at school,” Tim Walz said Tuesday night.

Despite saying they’re both gun owners, Harris and Walz have supported widespread violations of the right to bear arms.

“Together, we passed the first bipartisan law addressing gun violence prevention in nearly 30 years, but we have more work to do. We must pass an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, and red flag laws,” Harris said.

“Kamala Harris just said Trump is lying about her support of a mandatory gun buyback because she ‘is a gun owner.’ The reality is, Kamala will get to keep the guns protecting her while she forces you to turn yours in. But don’t listen to me, listen to Kamala herself,” Ashley St. Clair wrote.

“FACT-CHECK: Here’s gun owner (supposedly) Kamala Harris, in 2019 promising mandatory gun confiscation, which libs love to call a ‘buy back.’ But when it’s mandatory, they don’t exactly give you a choice,” Charlie Kirk commented.

In old footage, Harris said on the campaign trail that she would take executive action if Congress failed to implement gun control measures within her first 100 days.

Fox News reports:

While campaigning for president in 2019, then-Senator Harris called for banning assault weapons and universal background checks while stressing the need for stricter gun control laws.

“I am a gun owner, and I own a gun for probably the reason a lot of people do – for personal safety,” Harris, who previously served as San Francisco district attorney and California attorney general, said in August 2019, according to CNN. “I was a career prosecutor.”

While taking questions from college students in the audience of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” four years ago, one student asked Harris if she believes in the mandatory buybacks of assault weapons and “how does that idea not go against fundamentally the Second Amendment?”

“I do believe that we need to do buybacks,” Harris said. “First of all, let’s be clear about what assault weapons are. They have been designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly. They are weapons of war with no place on the streets of a civil society. I’ve seen assault weapons kill babies and police officers.”
