The Kansas City Chiefs canceled practice and open media on Thursday after defensive end BJ Thompson suffered a seizure and cardiac arrest.

“Thompson is in stable condition at an area hospital,” ESPN reports.

Arrowhead Pride reports:

The Kansas City Chiefs’ practice (and open media) scheduled for Thursday was canceled due to a medical emergency that occurred at the club’s practice facility. The incident involved Kansas City second-year defensive lineman BJ Thompson, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Teicher.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the 25-year-old suffered a seizure that caused him to go into cardiac arrest during a special teams meeting. Doctors and trainers responded quickly, and we’re told Thompson is now in stable condition at a local hospital.

The Chiefs were due to participate in their ninth of 10 organized team activities (OTA) practices on Thursday, wrapping up on Friday. The 10 voluntary practices lead into Kansas City’s three-day mandatory minicamp, which begins next Tuesday.

At this time, the final OTA practice will still take place on Friday. The media is invited to watch the session, and interviews are set for after the practice. Head coach Andy Reid is expected to address the media.

The Chiefs selected Thompson in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

“DL BJ Thompson is in stable condition after suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest during a meeting this morning, per source. A fifth-round pick in 2023 out of Stephen F. Austin, Thompson appeared in one game as a rookie for the Super Bowl champs,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said.

Per ESPN:

The Chiefs sent players home from the facility instead of holding their regularly scheduled OTA practice. The practice was rescheduled for Friday.

Thompson was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2023 draft from Stephen F. Austin. He played in one game as a rookie, registering two tackles.
