Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) endorsed House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for House Speaker.
McCarthy told reporters on Friday “I’m going to support Jim Jordan.”
In a closed-door GOP vote, Jordan won the party’s House Speaker nomination amidst a challenge from Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA).
The House Republican Conference voted 124-81 for Jordan over Scott.
However, the tally remains significantly below the threshold Jordan needs to earn the House Speaker role.
Scott’s last-minute entry into the race reportedly was a ‘protest’ against Jordan’s candidacy.

SCOTT – 81Jordan picked up just 25 votes. Scott, who didn't campaign for the job and got in minutes before the race, got 81 votes.

In a second vote to ask House Republicans if they would support Jordan in a House Floor vote, Jordan fell 65 votes short of 217.
The tally was 152-55.

McCarthy commented that he thinks Jordan has “got the votes” to overcome the challenge from Scott.
Fox News reports:
“But we’ll see… I think everybody has the right to run,” McCarthy said. “I think Jim’s better prepared in the process to be speaker.”
Scott, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, announced his candidacy for the lower chamber’s speaker’s gavel on Friday.
The Georgia lawmaker’s speaker candidacy came after Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., the original nominee for the gavel, pulled out of the race Thursday night.
Scalise was voted as the House GOP’s speaker nominee earlier this week to replace McCarthy, who was ousted via a motion to vacate last week.
“I have filed to be Speaker of the House,” Austin tweeted Friday. “We are in Washington to legislate, and I want to lead a House that functions in the best interest of the American people.”
Although Jordan doesn’t appear to have enough GOP support to win a House Floor vote, McCarthy remains optimistic the Ohio Republican can secure House Speaker.
“I think Jim Jordan can get there,” McCarthy told Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, according to the New York Post.
“I’m doing everything I can to help him be able to become speaker,” he added.

Per the New York Post:
McCarthy’s optimism was a slight change in tone from when House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) pursued the speakership last week.
“It’s possible but it’s a big hill. He [Scalise] told a lot of people he was going to be at 150 and he wasn’t there so,” McCarthy told reporters at the time.
Scalise initially edged out Jordan in a tight 113 to 99 closed-door vote by House Republicans to be the speaker-nominee. After failing to lock down sufficient votes, Scalise dropped out of consideration last Thursday evening.
Jordan clinched the party nod to be speaker the following day in a 124-81 vote. Strikingly, his chief opponent, Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.) only announced his candidacy about four hours earlier and managed to garner dozens of defectors.
Former President Donald Trump endorsed Jordan during his matchup against Scalise.
However, there are concerns Rep. Jim Jordan would be Kevin McCarthy 2.0 as House Speaker.

Jim Jordan: “We want questions answered before we even think about sending money to Ukraine.”
NO JIM!
Sad to say this guy continues to give off increasingly new RINO vibes.
We want NO money ever again going to Ukraine and we want the money we already sent BACK! You don’t get it Jim!
From our prior report:
The RINOs continue to self-identify.
I sure hope I’m wrong about Jim Jordan because he used to seem like he was one of the good guys, but recently he’s been giving me serious RINO vibes.
So sad to see.
First he sided with McCarthy.
And now he’s doing things like talking about sending more money to Ukraine.
Of course that’s not how he phrases it, but you have to learn how to speak RINO.
And after doing this for almost a decade, I speak VERY GOOD RINO.
So allow me to translate for you….
Jim Jordan says “We want questions answered before we even think about sending money to Ukraine.”
If you’re not paying attention, you might think that sounds good, until you realize he’s already laying the groundwork to send more money to Ukraine.
They’ll do some stupid dog & pony show that accomplishes nothing….
They’ll hold meetings, yell at some people, make it a big testicle — errrrr, I mean “spectacle” — and then when they’re done with their little show for the Media, we’ll go write back to scratching big checks to Ukraine.
NO JIM!
NO!
You either don’t get it or you’re a RINO member of the Uniparty.
Which is it?
