They say that politics makes strange bedfellows…Here’s a perfect example:

Van Jones and Kim Kardashian just announced that President Trump is signing the First Step Act in an effort at prison reform (see video below). While the left tries to divide us, President Trump is working so hard to make all Americans have a better life and that includes helping former prison inmates receive incentives to reenter society as productive citizens.

President Trump spoke at the White House after the signing:

The President urged lawmakers to work fast to get the First Step bill to his desk during this lame duck session. He said it will show that “true bipartisanship is possible.” says the prison reform bill will be “a big breakthrough for a lot of people.”

“If you can get this done, I’ll be waiting with a pen. We’ll do something that hasn’t been done in many many years – and it’s the right thing to do.” – PDJT

Van Jones of all people has been working with Kardashian on this so they really were excited to announce the signing by the president:

Remember that President Trump commuted the life sentence of Alice Johnson thanks to Kim Kardashian:

She’s a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a playwright, and an ordained minister. She has a spotless prison record and has been called an “exemplary prisoner
by prison guards. She is also a first time offender who was given a life sentence for a non-violent drug offense.

From her prison cell, Johnson told her story, as she pleaded with our government to stop “over-incarcerating” our citizens.

Here is Johnson’s powerful story:

Today, President Trump commuted her life sentence after a controversial visit with reality TV star and wife of Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, who met with Jared Kushner and President Trump to discuss her case. President Trump was widely criticized by the left for meeting with Kardashian to discuss the 63-year-old prisoner, Alice Johnson. Johnson has been in prison since 1996.

After their visit at the White House, President Trump tweeted: Great meeting with @KimKardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing.

Kardashian explains to Mic how she got involved in her fight to free Alice Johnson from prison:

Kim Kardashian West: Her fight to free Alice Johnson

News of Kim Kardashian West's meeting yesterday with Donald J. Trump to talk about prison reform stems from the story of #AliceMarieJohnson. In her own words, hear why Kardashian West is committed to freeing this specific woman.Follow the story here: mic.com/alice

In an exclusive interview with Mic after that meeting, Kardashian West said Trump “really spent the time to listen to our case that we were making for Alice. He really understood, and I am very hopeful that this will turn out really positively.”

Kardashian West initially became involved in Johnson’s case in October when she saw a Mic Opinion video featuring Johnson sharing her story from prison.

“I saw your video,” Kardashian West told Mic. “If you think about a decision that you’ve made in your life and you get life without the possibility of parole for your first-time nonviolent offense, there’s just something so wrong with that.”

After tweeting that video, Kardashian West enlisted her personal attorney Shawn Chapman Holley to provide legal support for Johnson’s clemency petition. She has since worked behind the scenes to advocate for Johnson’s release and even received a letterin November directly from Johnson.

Mic reported in May that Kardashian West had spoken multiple times to Trump’s son-in-law and White House senior adviser Jared Kushner in recent months about Johnson’s case. Kardashian West and Kushner’s phone conversations about Johnson picked up in recent weeks, which prompted Kushner to bring Johnson’s file in front of White House attorneys, and then Trump, about a potential release.

Now Johnson will be released from prison just after celebrating her 63rd birthday and after more than 21 years behind bars.

Johnson was convicted for her role facilitating communications in a cocaine trafficking operation in Memphis, Tennessee. She was given a life sentence without the possibility of parole, plus 25 years, after her co-conspirators testified against her in court.

After Kardashian’s visit, the left, who claims to be a champion of the underprivileged, including those unjustly imprisoned in America, went ballistic.

Kim Kardashian stood strong against the critics, however, and thanked President Trump and Jared Kushner for showing compassion and for contributing “countless hours” to Johnson’s important case. Kardashian also tweeted that Johnson’s commutation is “inspirational” and “gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance.”

This is something all Americans can work together on…Thank you President Trump!
