Although Democrats like to portray their push for so-called diversity as a step toward erasing the Jim Crow-era policies that their own party supported generations ago, many of today’s leftists have taken things to such an extreme that White Americans say they’re now the recipient of the same sort of institutionalized discrimination.
Unsurprisingly, such claims are more common in cities dominated by Democratic Party politicians, like Baltimore.
That’s the setting for a new lawsuit a former high-ranking city developer has filed against Mayor Brandon Scott and other municipal leaders, as Fox News reported:
Andrew C. Freeman, the former vice president at East Baltimore Development Inc. (EBDI), filed a lawsuit against Scott, the Baltimore City Council and EBDI on Monday claiming that he was fired shortly after his promotion in 2024 at the behest of the mayor’s office for his racial background in the largely Black workplace.
According to the lawsuit, EBDI President & CEO Cheryl Y. Washington allegedly admitted in text messages to firing Freeman less than two weeks after his promotion while attempting to rehire former Chief Real Estate Officer Karen Major Johnson, a Black woman, on Scott’s orders under the direction of his then-advisor Calvin Young.
ADVERTISEMENTThe lawsuit read, “On June 10, 2024, Ms. Washington sent Mr. Freeman a text message in which she wrote, ‘Andy this decision was NOT mine! Not at all!! I would have NEVER done this. NEVER! I totally understand your response and don’t take it personally. I feel HORRIBLE!!'”
Freeman claimed that the mayor was “upset” at the news of his promotion after the termination of a Black woman and “had an issue with it,” arguing that EBDI was “not focusing on core values.”
He added that after he initially threatened a charge of discrimination in 2024, EBDI began asserting that Freeman was terminated for “performance issues” that didn’t line up with the company’s “core values.” His lawyers maintain that his initial promotion proves this argument unfounded.
The lawsuit has sparked renewed discussion of an issue that has been raised in various other deep-blue states and regions:
How is "minority group" defined in a city such as Baltimore? Norwegian?

The Trump administration has focused extensively on rooting out “diversity, equity, and inclusion” policies that critics say exacerbate the problem:
🚨 LMAO! Hakeem Jeffries is MELTING DOWN over how successful President Trump has been at ridding our country of DEI
“We’re now at a point where AFFIRMATIVE ACTION is gone.
DIVERSITY is gone.
EQUITY, gone.
INCLUSION, gone…”

Scott joined the City of Baltimore in filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration opposing the push to eradicate DEI policies.
When it comes to this far-left mayor, though, this wasn’t the first time he’s been accused of letting his racial bias show:
Oh he's a Bigot 💯 threatened white men about coming to Baltimore on National television. But of course he didn't get fired. It's ok to discriminate whitey

Brandon Scott is a pathetic race baiter and divider, and hates white people. His reaction to the Columbus statue showed what he felt about Italians….Look at the makeup of his staff.

WBFF provided additional details about the new lawsuit:
During an exclusive interview with FOX45 News, Freeman said the organization went through a restructuring and when he was promoted to Vice President of Real Estate Development, Karen Major Johnson was let go. At the time, Johnson served as the chief real estate officer, but Freeman said he was told Johnson’s role was eliminated “because the organization did not need a Chief Real Estate Officer and a Senior Director of Real Estate Development.”
ADVERTISEMENT“When I was let go, when I was on that particular day in June, two years ago, I was told that I didn’t fit in,” Freeman said.
Freeman is represented by Tonya Bana, an employment attorney in the Baltimore area. In the complaint, Bana said Freeman was told by his direct supervisor – CEO Cheryl Washington – that the decision to terminate his employment “was not made by her and that she did not agree with it.”
“She also made it clear that Mr. Freeman was terminated at the direction of Mr. [Calvin] Young,” the complaint alleges as well.
Calvin Young was named EBDI’s board chair in March 2024, a decision that came directly from Mayor Scott. Young served as Scott’s campaign treasurer. In addition to Mayor Scott, the lawsuit names Young, and the EBDI as defendants.
Young claimed he told Washington to fire Freeman “because he ‘had a change of heart’ about terminating Ms. Johnson and because Mr. Freeman ‘didn’t fit in’ or ‘wasn’t a good fit’,” the lawsuit alleges.
In reality, when Mayor Scott found out that Ms. Johnson was discharged while Mr. Freeman was retained, the Mayor was ‘upset,’ he ‘had an issue with it,’ and he said that EBDI was ‘not focusing on core values’, according to the lawsuit.“Andy was discharged and it doesn’t make sense and the explanations that we’re given don’t add up,” Bana said to FOX45 News Monday. “And based on our due diligence and the investigation that we’ve done and the evidence that we have, all signs really point to race being the primary factor.”
