Yesterday, the NYPD received several 9-11 calls about a person who was described as “black” man with a “silver gun” who was pointing it at people.  When NYC police officers located the perpetrator, the officers say Saheed Vassell, who had been previously arrested 17 times for mostly “domestic-related” calls, “took a two-handed shooting stance” and pointed the object that appeared to be a gun at them.

Here’s a video of the NYPD media briefing explaining why the officers shot and killed

The man, identified by family members as Saheed Vassell, 34, was a Jamaica-born welder and the father of a teenage boy.

According to the New York Daily News, Police said they were responding to three 911 calls that came in around 4:40 p.m. about a black man wearing a brown jacket waving what people thought was a silver gun on the corner of Utica Ave. and Montgomery St., NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan said at a press conference.

When the police reached the street corner where the man was seen, Vassell was standing there, pointing a metal object at them. NYPD Chief of Department Terrence Monahan said during a press conference: “The suspect then took a two-handed shooting stance and pointed an object at the approaching officers.”

Monahan said the object was a “pipe with some sort of knob.” Here is a photo of that object, which some observers have said looks like a shower head. Police have not verified this:

Four police officers — one in uniform and three in plainclothes — fired 10 shots at Vassell around 4:45 p.m., and he was hit multiple times. (During a press conference, police said that there was an additional uniformed officer at the scene who did not fire.) He was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he later died.

Jaccpot Hinds told The New York Times that he was walking on Utica Avenue when an unmarked police car passed him. A plainclothes officer shot at the man several time in the neck, chest, and right arm, Hinds said.

Chris J. told New York Daily News that he thought he was hearing firecrackers at first. It was one shot, and “then it was nonstop after that.” He said a plainclothes officer handcuffed Vassell as he was lying on the sidewalk, not moving. “They put him on his back and they tried to compress his chest but he was gone.”

Hinds said he also saw  the officer who fired trying to resuscitate Vassell. They put him on an ambulance about five minutes later. –Heavy

Watch the compilation video, taken from several security cameras that the NYPD posted to Twitter. Along with the video, the NYPD News tweeted: “New video and 911 call transcript excerpts from yesterday’s police involved shooting in . NYPD received several calls from neighborhood residents about a man pointing a gun at people on the street.”

Eric Vassell, 63, the slain man’s father, said that his son, who went to Wingate High School, struggled with bipolar disorder, but refused treatment.

“He hasn’t taken his medication for years,” the father said.

The elder Vassell said he used to fret about Saheed.

After the shooting, an angry crowd formed at the edge of the police tape shouting at police and pointing out the officers they believed to be responsible.

“The whole community came outside,” he added. “People were going crazy. It was a nightmare out there.”

Vassell was known as a quirky neighborhood character with some mental health issues. His family said that he struggled with alcohol, but the community knew he meant no harm.

Mavitza Burgos posted a message to the deceased Saheed on Facebook. Here is a partial transcript of her post: Rip Saheed Vassell today you were tooken by nypd for no reason ,you were a good individual, didn’t know you personally but my little cuzin plays with your 15 year old son in the hood all the time…….

Andre Wilson, 38, who’s known Vassell for 20 years, said he was odd but harmless.

Vassell had been arrested 17 times, mostly for domestic violence related issues, New York Daily News reported. At this time, additional background on those arrests is not known. –NY Daily News

It doesn’t matter to the left that Vassell was terrorizing the neighborhood, or that he had 17 prior arrests related to domestic violence events, he was a good boy who never bothered no one…

Loud-mouth sharia supporting Linda Sarsour, or the Muslim Al Sharpton, grabbed the microphone to spew hate against the NYPD officers who shot and killed the pipe-wielding Saheed Vassell, after several 9-11 calls. Sarsour calls Vassell calls a “brother” during her rant.

Next up to the microphone was New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams who pointed out that the black man who was walking around terrifying innocent people by pointing an object that appeared to be a gun at them, would still be alive today if he was white.
