Late night show host Stephen Colbert has been known as one of President Trump’s most aggressive critics.  The so-called “comedian” has landed himself in hot water before for homophobic attacks against the President, as well as a litany of other controversies.  In the wake of the Rittenhouse verdict, where the 18 year old was acquitted on all charges, he has become a target of Colbert’s ire as well.  On Monday’s Late Night Show, Colbert said that if Rittenhouse didn’t break the law, it should be changed to criminalize similar acts in the future.

“Cards on the table, I am not a legal expert so I can’t tell you whether or not Kyle Rittenhouse broke the law. But I can tell you this, if he didn’t break the law, we should change the law,” Colbert continued to rant. “That seems simple.” Colbert said.

The late night show went on to attack Rep. Matt Gaetz for celebrating his acquittal, saying “So, Rittenhouse was found not guilty, but only a complete moron would celebrate this clear tragedy by making this guy a hero.”

Colbert has come under fire in the past for his inflammatory rhetoric against President Trump.  In 2017, he was attacked by both conservative and liberal media for saying that President Trump’s mouth would make for a good “c*ck holster” for Vladimir Putin.

After a trial that lasted over a year, Rittenhouse was cleared of multiple murder charges as well as a weapons charge when he was attacked by rioters during the Kenosha unrest.  Prominent conservative activists such as Nicholas Sandmann have said that he should sue the media for defamation.
