New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has defended the city’s sanctuary city policies in the past, claiming it makes the city safer. It’s difficult to understand how letting known criminals out of prison helps anyone but the criminal. Liberal logic?

Fox News reports that ICE just upped the pressure by putting out a list of illegals who happen to be fugitives who have been released despite requests from ICE to deport them. Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence presented the list to reporters at a press conference in New York on Friday.

The fugitives on the list are from Nigeria, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guinea, Spain, and El Salvador. The fugitives released have a long list of different crimes, including assault in the first, second, and third degrees, attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, gang assaults, and other violent offenses. Last year ICE lodged 7,526 detainers via its New York field office. Those 7,526 individuals accounted for 17,873 criminal convictions and 6,500 criminal charges.

Sanctuary cities, as described by Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence, are cities that ignore detainers issued by ICE for arrested illegals. The detainer requests from ICE are so that when a criminal is released from custody, they can be deported.

Recently, the sanctuary city policy has been in the spotlight because of the tragic rape and murder of a 92-year-old woman, allegedly by an illegal immigrant who should have been deported but wasn’t because of the city’s policy. The suspect was released from police custody after New York ignored an ICE detainer to have the man deported.

Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf tweeted out about the terrible crime:

“Make no mistake…it is this city’s sanctuary policies that are the sole reason this criminal was allowed to roam the streets freely and end an innocent woman’s life.” – Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence
