A mother with a 13-year-old son who attends Barack Obama Global Prep Academy in South Los Angeles claims her son was told to keep quiet after he was given the COVID-19 jab without her consent in exchange for pizza.

Maribel Duarte, the mother of the 13-year-old son, says she is vaccinated but that it’s different for her son, telling the reporter that he has asthma and allergy problems. She explained that her son came home from the South Los Angeles Barack Obama Global Prep Academy with a vaccine card in his hand. His mom said he told her that she was not asked for permission to give her son a COVID vaccine and that he accepted the jab after he was offered pizza.

“The lady that gave him the shot and signed the paper told my son, ‘Please don’t say anything. I don’t want to get in trouble.'”

“It hurt to know he got a shot without my permission, without knowing and without signing any papers for him to get the shot,” Duarte told the NBC Los Angeles reporter.

Attorney Jennifer Kennedy told the NBC Los Angeles reporter that the school does not have the power to vaccine the kids.

According to NBC Los Angeles – In California, school vaccines are handled through the state Department of Public Health and created into law through the state legislature.

The LAUSD says that 80% of eligible students at Obama Prep have been vaccinated as of the Thanksgiving break.

“It hurt to know he got a shot without my permission, without knowing and without signing any papers for him to get the shot,” Duarte said.

The LAUSD has mandated a Jan. 10 vaccination for all students age 12 and above. Those who don’t get it and don’t have a legal exemption will be forced back into virtual, online learning.
