Great Mills High School in Maryland was on lockdown Tuesday morning after officials confirmed there was a shooting on the premises.
According to reports from Fox News, the St. Mary’s Sheriff Office responded to the call and the situation has now been contained. Maryland State Police have also responded to the incident and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms are also on their way to the school.
Here are more details from Fox:
The Sheriff’s Office warned parents to not “respond to the school” but instead go to Leonardtown High School, where students will be transported.
NBC Washington reported multiple injuries, but that was not immediately confirmed by authorities.
Special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives [ATF] are traveling to the school to investigate the incident.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan released a statement via Twitter noting he was keeping a careful eye on the situation:
We are closely monitoring the situation at Great Mills High School. @MDSP is in touch with local law enforcement and ready to provide support. Our prayers are with students, school personnel, and first responders.

The incident at Great Mills comes just a month after the grisly shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida that left 17 people dead.
What’s even more unfortunate is that it’s only a matter of time — in fact, it’s probably already happening as we speak — before the left immediately jumps up and blames guns for this shooting, demanding our Second Amendment right to protect ourselves be tossed in the proverbial garbage can.
The question we really need to be asking is why would a student — or a teacher, seeing as we don’t know yet who is responsible for this situation — want to harm other people? What’s the underlying root that is driving folks to the edge of sanity where murder actually looks like a viable solution for handling a problem?
That’s the part of all this that needs to be addressed, the part that will help solve this issue. Gun control doesn’t touch on that.
