For the first time in its history, Florida has a greater number of registered Republicans than Democrats.

Twitter user @TimDCpolitico set up a visual comparison using Florida’s voter rolls from March 31, 2020 and compared them to the current numbers. The effect that the COVID pandemic has had on the state’s voter registration has been, as Tim puts it, “jaw-dropping”.

These figures show that the GOP has gained 274,503 party members in the past nine months. 66 of Florida’s 67 counties have also turned red(der). As Americans tire of the overbearing COVID restrictions and mandates, more and more flock to Florida to find some semblance of freedom. Florida is the 7th fastest-growing state in the U.S., and its increased popularity is undoubtedly due to the safe haven it has become.
