Former Vice President Mike Pence threw President Trump under the bus in his latest tweet.

After receiving news Trump was indicted in a DC Federal Court, Pence tweeted “Today’s indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States.”

Pence continued “I will have more to say about the government’s case after reviewing the indictment. The former president is entitled to the presumption of innocence but with this indictment, his candidacy means more talk about January 6th and more distractions.”

Here’s what Axios reported:

Mike Pence addressed Tuesday his Republican presidential rival Donald Trump’s federal indictment in the Jan. 6 investigation into alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

“Today’s indictment serves as an important reminder: Anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be president of the United States,” Trump’s former vice president said in a statement that also emphasized that the ex-president was entitled to a presumption of innocence.

Pence is considered a key witness in the Jan. 6 case brought by special counsel Jack Smith due to his insights into events leading up to the U.S. Capitol riot and because of his resisting pressure he faced from those seeking to stop him from certifying President Biden’s election win.

Pence addressed this point in his statement Tuesday, saying: “On January 6th, former President Trump demanded that I choose between him and the Constitution. I chose the Constitution, and I always will.”

Pence later called Trump’s lawyers crackpots:

Fox News got the scoop too:

Former Vice President Mike Pence did not parse words when reacting to former President Trump’s indictment by Special Counsel Jack Smith on Tuesday.

In a statement released following Trump’s indictment on charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol and efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, Pence accused Trump of putting himself over the Constitution, and said a Trump candidacy would serve as a distraction from President Biden’s “disastrous” record.

“Today’s indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States,” Pence said. “I will have more to say about the government’s case after reviewing the indictment.”

Pence later did an interview with Fox News and stated  “You know,  I don’t know. Honestly I don’t know.”
