I don’t know how I’ve never come across this before, but this is a first for me seeing this even though it’s apparently been around since 2006.

Yes, it’s real.

The sculpture exists and looks very much like the photos and video circulating.It is officially titled To the Struggle Against World Terrorism (also called the Tear Drop Memorial or Tear of Grief). It stands at Harbor View Park on the former Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey. Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli created it; it was presented as a gift from Russia and dedicated on September 11, 2006.

The design is a 100-foot bronze-clad tower with a jagged vertical split down the middle. A 40-foot polished stainless-steel teardrop hangs inside that opening. The 11-sided granite base lists the names of those killed on 9/11 and in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. From the site you can look across the harbor toward the Statue of Liberty and Lower Manhattan.

The shape is intentional and polarizing—some people find the teardrop-in-a-crack motif powerful, others find it awkward or even unintentionally suggestive. That reaction is common in comments, but the structure itself is exactly as shown. It is not widely publicized compared with the memorials at Ground Zero, which is why many people only encounter it through posts like the one you saw.

Once again, I clearly don’t get art, because when I look at that I don’t see a “teardrop”….I see what looks exactly like a certain part of the female anatomy!

And as if to rub it in our faces (no pun intended), they even put the little happy button up top!

We lost nearly 3,000 Americans on 9/11/2001 and you send us a giant vagina five years later Russia?

But you know what, I can’t really fault them.

I think there’s a very logical thought process that could explain all of this and I can’t really fault them for it.

I can absolutely see Putin speaking to his advisors and trying to understand the American way of life….

Maybe it went something like this:  “No, I’m telling you Sokolov, the Americans will LOVE this!  They put up a giant erection monument in their capital city and they named it after their first President, Washington.  Clearly the Americans take great pride and put great value in monuments that honor private parts.  And I have had my team search and they report absolutely ZERO vagina monuments anywhere in America.  It will beautifully match the giant penis they dedicated to Washington.  We must do this.  Have it commissioned immediately!”

And I suspect that’s EXACTLY how we got the “Tear Drop Memorial.”

Annual tributes and commemorations of the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. began nationwide Friday and included the unveiling of a statue in Boston.

The 20-foot-high bronze sculpture called “The Embrace” is said to be one of the country’s largest memorials dedicated to racial equity.

When looking at the sculpture, you’ll see four intertwined arms — inspired by a photo of the civil rights leader and his wife, Coretta Scott King, when they learned he had won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

King first met his wife in Boston in the early 1950s, when he was a doctoral student in theology at Boston University and she was studying at the New England Conservatory of Music.

“My parents’ time in Boston is often a forgotten part of their history – and the history of the movement they helped inspire,” said Martin Luther King, III in a press release. “The Embrace is a commemoration of their relationship and journey and represents the meaningful role Boston served in our history.”
