This weekend, during a segment on MSNBC, Mara Gay expressed her concern over “dozens of American flagsā flown byĀ Donald TrumpĀ supporters during a weekend trip to Long Island, New York.
Welcome to our bizarre new world, where Democrats are offended by American flags, and anyone who disagrees with their far-left ideology is a racist.
New York Post reports –Ā The left-wing editorial board member forĀ the New York TimesĀ was also distressed by what she called expletives on the trucks againstĀ President Biden, describing the flag-flying Trump supporters as sending a clear message: āThis is my country ā¦ not your country. I own this.ā
āThe reality is here that we have a large percentage of the American population ā I donāt know how big it is, but we have tens of millions of Trump voters who continue to believe that their rights as citizens are under threat by simple virtue of having to share the democracy with others,ā Gay said in response to MSNBC hostĀ Mika BrzezinskiĀ calling for an investigation into the Jan. 6Ā Capitol riot.
āI think that as long as they see Americanness as the same as one with whiteness, this is going to continue,ā Gay said, turning to race and adding that āAmericannessā and āwhitenessā needed to be separated.
āI was on Long Island this weekend visiting a really dear friend, and I was really disturbed. I saw, you know, dozens and dozens of pickup trucks with explicatives [sic] against Joe Biden on the back of them, Trump flags, and in some cases just dozens of American flags, which is also just disturbing ā¦ Essentially, the message was clear: This is my country. This is not your country. I own this,ā Gay said.
She claimed Americans would continue to see things like that until the country was ready to have the conversation about āwhiteness,ā adding her concern that āa large percentage of Americansā donāt understand the threat that it is.
āThat is the real concern. Because, you know, the Trump voters who are not going to get onboard with democracy, theyāre a minority. You can marginalize them long-term. But if we donāt take the threat seriously, then I think weāre all in really bad shape,ā she said.
