After Anthony Fauci’s Senate committee hearing, where he invoked the Fifth Amendment dozens of times, several GOP-led states have decided to investigate the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said on Wednesday that his office would launch an investigation.

“Fauci’s lack of candor to Congress is unbelievable,” Uthmeier said.

“My office is launching an investigation into Dr. Fauci. It’s past time we get the truth of what happened during COVID,” he added.

Now, other states have followed Uthmeier's lead.

Louisiana and Alabama have become the latest states to announce plans to investigate Fauci.

"Fauci lied. Louisiana and Missouri deposed Dr. Fauci. At the time, he claimed to not recall many key details of his own actions and now we are discovering contemporaneous records he kept," Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said.

"Louisiana will join Alabama & Florida in investigating Fauci and whether he committed any other offenses that could be pursued in our State courts," she continued.

Wednesday’s hearing came on the heels of Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., obtaining and releasing over 1,000 pages from Fauci’s pandemic-era diary. Congress has questioned Fauci before, but access to the former director’s written personal thoughts prompted Republican lawmakers to again challenge him on Capitol Hill. Paul said the diary provided evidence that Fauci’s private thoughts did not align with his public health decisions.

Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment right to not incriminate himself to dozens of questions, including questions as simple as the color of his tie and the color of the carpet. Paul, the chairman of the committee holding the hearing, also had one of Fauci’s lawyers thrown out of the hearing for repeatedly trying to speak without his permission.

After nearly three hours of statements and questions from lawmakers, Paul wrapped up the hearing but said that senators would be voting next week on whether to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress.

"After I reached out to EVERY Republican Attorney General in the country, Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida have stepped up to investigate Anthony Fauci for offenses that they can prosecuted in state courts.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ Louisiana and Missouri have previously deposed Fauci," independent journalist Breanna Morello commented.

"During his deposition he claimed to not recall many key details of his own actions and now the Senate has discovered the detailed records he kept," she added.

"Sen. Tommy Tuberville, the frontrunner for Alabama governor, told Fox News Digital he plans to drag Fauci to Montgomery to face state charges for the deaths of tens of thousands of Alabamians. Florida AG James Uthmeier confirmed his office is investigating 'any and all potential violations of Florida law' tied to Fauci's COVID-era decisions," Fox News stated.

"The constitutional basis: Biden's pardon covers 'offences against the United States' — federal crimes only. State-level accountability remains wide open," it added.

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., argued that former President Joe Biden’s blanket pardon eliminated Fauci’s federal criminal exposure for covered conduct and undercut his basis for refusing to answer.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., alluded to that detail and told Fox News Digital that same pardon cannot prevent prosecution at the state level under the Constitution, which says presidential pardons cover "offenses against the United States."

"Anthony Fauci is responsible for the deaths of millions of Americans and tens of thousands of Alabamians," Tuberville told Fox News Digital. "The ‘pardon’ signed by Joe Biden’s autopen doesn’t apply to state-level crimes.

"When I’m governor of Alabama, I will look into ways we can hold Fauci accountable for all of the Alabamians who died under his watch."

Tuberville, who is favored to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Kay Ivey in November, indicated he would order Fauci to Montgomery, Alabama, as many times as he could to face state charges and encouraged Alabamians to bring their own civil claims against the 85-year-old immunologist.

Speaking to Newsmax from the Capitol, Tuberville separately fumed that Fauci "should be locked up before he leaves this building today."
