Civil Rights activist turned US Congressman, John Lewis (D-GA) died last week after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Rep. Lewis was a member of congress since 1987.

Georgia Democrats are currently under a time-crunch to decide who will fill the shoes of the civil rights giant. There is a deadline of 4 p.m. on July 20, 2020, for the party to decide which of the 131 applicants to fill Lewis’ seat will appear on the ballot in November.

A high-profile panel of Georgia Democrats has narrowed to five a lengthy list of would-be successors to the late congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.) as the party moves briskly to put a replacement candidate on the November ballot.

A nominating committee that included Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams on Monday pared down a list of 131 applicants to succeed the civil rights icon in Congress.

While the media obsesses over which Democrat will succeed Rep. Lewis, they’ve completely ignored the black, female Republican who’s running for Lewis’ seat. Angela Stanton King, a black Georgia woman who was pardoned by President Trump on February 18, is running as a Republican Rep. John Lewis’ now-vacated seat.

Ms. Stanton-King was pardoned by Mr. Trump on Feb. 18 after serving two years in jail and six months in home confinement for her 2004 conviction in a vehicle-theft ring.

Angela Stanton-King is a pro-life advocate and the goddaughter of Alveda King, Martin Luther King Jr.’s niece. Stanton-King plans to make criminal justice reform and abortion the primary focus of her campaign.

Stanton-King met with the popular Breakfast Club hosts to discuss why she’s running as a Republican even though everyone in her family is a Democrat. When the female host of the Breakfast Club attempted to argue with Stanton-King about her stance on pro-life, Stanton-King destroyed her with facts about Planned Parenthood and their racist founder Margaret Sanger. The Breakfast Club hosts also tried to shame her for her belief that mutliple genders shouldn’t be something elementary-age kids are. being taught in school, until they discovered her son, who the congressional candidate disclosed, is gay.
