Which comes first — the peace deal, or the security guarantee?

That’s the question at the heart of the controversy surrounding how to move forward (if at all…) in any attempt to bring an end to the fighting in Ukraine.

That has been President Trump’s primary stated goal with respect to Ukraine.  But with Zelensky and Europe muddying the waters by getting that peace vs security dynamic backwards, it may turn out to be an impossible goal.

Booting Zelensky and the Ukrainians from the White House on Friday was a sign that President Trump is increasingly seeing it as just that — an impossible deal.

But there seems to be a new offer on the table after the fiery dustup in the Oval Office last Friday; though not from America, and therefore lacking American-sized leveraging power.

Europe has decided that it can bring about a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine on its’ own.

This is their plan: to move forward with a ‘PEACE PLAN’ that is truly nothing more than CONTINUING TO FUND AND FUEL THE FIGHTING!  (Nothing changes, except it increases!)

The problem is… they are attempting to achieve PEACE through security guarantees; they are attempting to create a SECURITY THREAT to Russia which will magically morph into a defacto peace — the very thing that President Trump is warning will turn into WWIII long before it creates “peace”.

President Trump understands that the dynamics of the situation require any SECURITY guarantees to hinge first and foremost on an actual PEACE DEAL achieved through true negotiations.

Which means you have to talk to the person on the other side with a certain degree of good faith, fully ready to MAKE peace — not just “enforce” it.  That’s not a peace deal otherwise; it’s WINNING.  It’s DEFEATING THE ADVERSARY.

Usually, I would say that would be great.  Often… it is what you want to do, even if it costs you.

But in this case… it means full open warfare with a nuclear-tipped Russia, and likely China, etc — all at the same time.  That’s WWIII.

Which is the only thing Zelensky is thinking about.  And he wants the West to do it for him… which thankfully President Trump understands.

The moment it became clear to him that Zelensky and Europe were completely closed off to attempting to make PEACE THROUGH NEGOTIATIONS before talking security — something that Russia would only rightly perceive as further threats — President Trump knew the deal was unmakeable.

At that point, the only thing that would have happened if he ALLOWED the Ukrainians to sign the ‘minerals for security’ deal… would have been our further entanglement in a war that may have no end; because Ukraine and Europe WANT no end to it.

So here we are, with a NEW DEAL on the table for Zelensky — and Europe is ready to sign on the dotted line.

But apparently, they are assuming THE UNITED STATES is going to sign alongside them.

Not surprisingly, this ‘failure’ of the Ukrainians and Europe to recognize the blunder they are making, and the likely outcome of increased warfare leads me to suspect the obvious:

They aren’t ‘blundering’ into this — they know full well what they’re doing.

It’s been the plan all along.  Except now, President Trump isn’t going with the program.

Zelensky came to the White House intending on getting assurances that America would do our part in continuing the war against Russia; not to work towards peace.

Which is why even as Europe lunges headlong towards WWIII with a backwards approach to peace…

House Speaker Johnson is calling on Zelensky to get a clue, or step aside, according to a report in The Hill:

What’s next for Ukraine? That’s the big question after the explosive Oval Office meeting between President Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Vice President Vance.

Now, Trump and his allies are declaring Zelensky unfit to run his country. After the Friday meeting, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), one of the Senate’s staunchest Republican supporters of Ukraine, said Zelensky needs to “resign” or “change.”

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told NBC News’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that Zelensky “needs to come to his senses” or “someone else needs to lead the country to do that.”

Starmer on Sunday told the BBC that the United Kingdom and France will work on a Ukraine peace plan and mediate between Zelensky and Trump. French President Emmanuel Macron and his foreign minister said today that France and Britain are proposing a partial one-month truce that would cover air, sea and energy infrastructure attacks but not include ground fighting.

In Washington, the Trump administration is strongly considering cutting off shipments of military aid to Ukraine. No final decision has been made, but it’s not the first time the administration has contemplated such a move.

For his part, President Trump seems ready to accept the fact that — for the time being, at least — there are no viable paths to ending the fighting in Ukraine.

His suggestion for Americans is that we spend less time worrying about Putin, and drill down on the real issue confronting America on a daily basis.

He posted on his Truth Social account that we should take a hint from Europe’s downfall, and make sure we don’t make the same immigration mistakes they’ve made!

Here’s the full text of his post for easier reading:

“We should spend less time worrying about Putin, and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our Country – So that we don’t end up like Europe!”

Of course, now Zelensky is perfectly ready to sign the so-called ‘minerals for security’ deal with the United States.

But he is being adamant that he isn’t ready to consider a peace deal with Russia that includes any territorial concessions to Russia, according to a report by the New York Post:

Zelensky, for his part, said on Sunday that he believed he could salvage his relationship with Trump and was still “ready” to sign a US-Ukraine minerals deal — but Ukraine wouldn’t concede any territory to Russia as part of a peace deal.

In the wake of the Oval Office clash, European leaders leaped to Zelensky’s defense — with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer saying at a summit in London that they had agreed to draw up a Ukraine peace plan to present to the US.

President Trump is right in his assertion that Putin will see the European and Ukrainian approach as nothing but a way to continue the war.

The Kremlin’s statement attests to that fact; and you don’t have to be a Putin sympathizer to recognize the reasonable logic of that argument.

You do, however, have to actually want peace — not a continuation of war — to admit that the logic is sound… which is why Europe and Zelensky are refusing to do so.  (Along with democrats and RINOs in the US, I might add.)

But even with the European leadership walking in lockstep with Zelensky, the Ukrainian leader is obviously worried about the possibility that he might lose the critical help of America in continuing the war effort.

A story in the Kiev Post this mornings makes that very clear.  He is now desperate to give President Trump what he wants… a mineral deal… in order to keep the U.S. war funds flowing:

Ukraine is ready to sign a minerals deal with the United States, President Volodymyr Zelensky told UK media on Sunday.

“The agreement that’s on the table will be signed if the parties are ready,” he told a late-night huddle with some UK media after a landmark summit in London.

The deal, which was supposed to be a step towards helping to end the conflict in Ukraine, fell through on Friday after a televised Oval Office confrontation that began with remarks from US Vice President Vance and continued with President Trump, both berating President Zelensky.

“It is our policy to continue what happened in the past; we’re constructive,” Zelensky said, quoted by the BBC.

“If we agreed to sign the minerals deal, we’re ready to sign it.”

The “deal” put forward by European leaders for Zelensky is striking, in that it portends to give Zelensky what President Trump wouldn’t — a promise of continued funding to increase the war effort.

And at the same time, it hinges on continued American involvement!

Do these people even realize that there was an election in the United States… and the American people overwhelmingly voted AGAINST the status quo?

It doesn’t appear that Europe got the memo.

UK’s Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, explained his “framework for a peace plan” in detail over the weekend, according to a Fox News report:

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer put forward a framework for a peace plan between Ukraine and Russia on Sunday, though he acknowledged it relies heavily on assumed U.S. support.

Starmer revealed the plan along with French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday. In a concession to President Donald Trump’s administration, Starmer emphasized that European countries would need to “step up their own share of the burden” toward security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a peace deal.

Starmer said the U.K. is prepared to deploy boots on the ground in Ukraine as well as air force assets to ensure Russia does not infringe on a peace agreement. He nevertheless stated that the plan would rely heavily on U.S. backing as well.

Macron told French media that European leaders were discussing a plan that would freeze strikes from the air, sea and on energy infrastructure for 30 days in Ukraine. He said the window could be used to negotiate a wider peace deal.

Meanwhile, Zelenskyy himself has been on damage control since a disastrous meeting with Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the White House on Friday. Zelenskyy has emphasized that he is still willing to sign a rare earth minerals deal with the White House. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday ruled out “security guarantees” for Ukraine before beginning peace talks.

“The security guarantees, which I actually like to call deterrence, is all contingent upon there being a peace,” Rubio told ABC “This Week.” “Everybody saying security guarantees to secure the peace, you first have to have a peace.”

In a nutshell, Europe is now promising to do what President Trump made very clear we wouldn’t; continue funding a war without attempting to stop the fighting with a true peace deal.

And what’s more… the European plan HINGES on American involvement!

Starmer flat out said, out loud for Russia and everyone to hear, that their plan includes putting British military boots on the ground in Ukraine to fight Russia…

AND HE WANTS THE UNITED STATES TO DO THE SAME.

President Trump was right.

He was right to kick the Ukrainians out of the White House, and he was right in recognizing that there is no intention on the part of Zelensky — or his European backers — to actually negotiate a peace and end the fighting.

Unfortunately, the rest of the world is likely to suffer terribly as a result of Europe’s relentless need to keep the money laundering operation going at break neck speed, ignoring the wisdom of the one leader willing to stand up and put a stop to it.

And this “new” deal put forward by the Europeans is nothing more than the OLD deal… on steroids.
