This could backfire on the supermarket hoping to shame customers with embarrassing labels on the bags.

You can guarantee that these bags will be the desired item for many people with a sense of humor.

The Facebook page of East West Market has several comments inquiring about how to purchase the bags just for fun:

Because Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wants to ban all single-use plastics by 2021, the stores in Canada have resorted to shaming customers into bringing their own bags to the supermarket.

WHDH reports that a Vancouver-based store designed the news bags with large font and messages that include “Into the Weird Adult Video Emporium,” “Dr. Toew’s Wart Ointment Wholesale,” and “The Colon Care Co-Op.”

Vancouver requires all businesses to have a “single-use item reduction strategy in place.

The problem with this is that plastic bags aren’t “single-use” to some people. Many people repurpose the bags as small trash bags or use them to wrap things up to store them. Also, many people use the bags as “poop bags” when they walk the dog.

This is too funny! The store took a photo of two customers who they claim decided to “make changes for the better” by carrying their groceries by hand. Do you see what we see? Their food is in 6 plastic containers and the apples are in a plastic bag. LOL!

These bags could be flying off the shelves as novelty items. Doesn’t that defeat the original purpose?
