Serbia’s Novak Djokovic won his seventh championship Sunday at the All England Club, returning him to the top spot in tennis after winning the Wimbledon title.

But as of now, he will be unable to enter the U.S. Open because he refuses to take any of the coronavirus shots. Eurosport reported that he said,

“As of today, I am not allowed to enter the States under these circumstances,” Djokovic said.

“I will just have to wait and see. I would love to go to the States. But as of today that is not possible. There is not much I can do anymore. It is up to the U.S. government to make a decision whether or not they allow the unvaccinated people to go in to the country.”

When asked about waiting for an exemption from the U.S. government to allow him to enter the competition, He said, “I’m not vaccinated, and I am not planning to get vaccinated.” He went on to say he “didn’t know if an exemption was realistically possible.”

John McEnroe, an outspoken and renowned Tennis player, criticized politicians for denying tennis star Djokovic’s entrance to the U.S. because he is unvaccinated. According to the New York Post McEnroe said,

“These politicians are getting in the way too much,” McEnroe said “They did it in Australia. Let’s let the guy come in and play in the U.S. I mean, come on. This is ridiculous.” Adding, “Whatever you think the government should or should not do, it’s a bummer for tennis.”

The decision is drawing criticism for being politically motivated by the Biden Admin as an “Absolute Disgrace.”

Novak Djokovic has ample support for standing for his convictions and is being hailed as a “Natural Immunity Champion.”
